Dharma Talks or Videos

Postby sattva » Thu Jun 05, 2014 4:05 am

I don't think we have a Dharma Talks/Video Thread. So, here is one. If you are listening or watching one and you think others might enjoy it, you can post a link here.

I have been listening to a talk on Dharma Seed given by Rebecca Bradshaw. It is on "The Calming Factors of Awakening".

This is an excellent talk from Ajahn Sumedho which I was fortunate enough to attend myself.

What a marvelous coincidence I just thought today about opening up a thread dedicated to talks as well :anjali:

Here's on for starters I found today on the tube:
"Winning and Losing" - Ajahn Amaro - June 2014 Thailand

Get the wanting out of waiting

What does womanhood matter at all, when the mind is concentrated well, when knowledge flows on steadily as one sees correctly into Dhamma. One to whom it might occur, ‘I am a woman’ or ‘I am a man’ or ‘I’m anything at all’ is fit for Mara to address. – SN 5.2

If they take what's yours, tell yourself that you're making it a gift.
Otherwise there will be no end to the animosity. - Ajahn Fuang Jotiko

I share my playlist here... somewhat over 100 talks (but also documentaries or other stuff that I found interesting about and around dhamma). You might find something of interest for you :anjali:

I've been listening to Ajahn Geoff for many years now and really like his Dhamma talks. He's got a soothing voice and his Dhamma talks goes straight to the point, which I like. You can find his talks at www.dhammatalks.org.

I would like to suggest a new documentary about Buddhism "All is Ablaze" that deals with the expression of Buddha's teachings through the words of five Italian Buddhist masters of different traditions.

At that link you will find more informations (the English version follows the Italian one), the trailer and eventually the button to book a Dvd:

All the best!

Really great stuff here.

I will offer this video of a talk by Kusala Bhikshu. He is not a Theravadan monk but I really enjoyed his humor and simplicity and how he relates to this non-Buddhist crowd. He also jams out on blues harmonica at the end

I have also heard one audio from this site, it was quite amazing.
I think I would heard this whenever I have time.

Here's 4500+ MP3 Dhamma Talks (all on one great big page), mostly from westerner, English-speaking Ajahns in the Ajahn Chah lineage of the Theravada Thai Forest Tradition:

:woohoo:

There's also some recordings of chanting (although relatively few).

The Thai Forest Masters
by Ṭhānissaro Bhikkhu

The Thai forest tradition is well-known for the style of its teachings–direct, down-to- earth . . . but very little has been written about the content of its teachings: the positions it took on controversial issues regarding virtue, concentration, discernment, and release. This daylong focused on filling in this gap with reference to the recorded teachings of Ajaan Mun Bhuridatto, one of the founders of the tradition, as well as to the more systematic writings of two of his most articulate students, Ajaan Lee Dhammadharo and Ajaan Maha Boowa Nanasampanno.

With it being the rains retreat currently for a lot of monastics around the world, and the decreasing activity of the monks that comes with such a period, several monasteries do not upload the dhamma talks on to their website. They usually upload them after the retreat in early April. However, bucking that trend is the monks at Abhayagiri in the US. There are several excellent teachers here and I encourage you to share in the wisdom of their talks.

Enjoy and metta
