Apparently a 6.3 quake hit Christchurch not too long ago.

Situation looks pretty bad, multiple fatalities according to 3news. Communications are pretty damn limited, apparently internet and phone is out. Massive structural damage to the city.

Hope Mike's ok. Thoughts are with everyone in Canterbury.

Wishing all in Christchurch well.
Hoping Mike and all NZ based members, and their families and friends, are all safe, happy and well.

Here's the latest from ABC News (Australia): http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011 ... 145320.htm
It looks pretty bad. Such a lovely city, too.
Metta to all there.

Just got home from work and saw the photos on CNN. Looks pretty bad -- lots of crumbling buildings and cracked roads.

Metta to all affected and may those still with us stay safe in the aftermath.

17 confirmed dead so far, probably expect late double to triple figures within the next few day. So much destruction, it seems like utter chaos.
Just watching the news now, I can't hold back the tears - It's heartbreaking.

Greetings,

After this I imagine a lot of the survivors will leave and not come back.

My heart goes out to all affected by this disater, from a fellow antipodean. It just reminds me how we cling to this life by the narrowest thread; gotta make the most of the time we have. Here's to a speedy recovery by the Kiwis.

May Mike and any other friends in New Zealand be safe and protected.

May we hear from them as soon as electricity is restored and the internet becomes available once again.

Holding them in my heart with metta,

Hi,

I and my family are fine. Just got electricity back an hour ago. Our building at the University was OK when we left but we have to wait for a while for safety checks. But as you can see as well as I can on TV and the Internet the destruction down town is severe, and some houses are badly damaged.
