I feel compelled to add some Black Sabbath, the godfathers of heavy metal:

What do you think of Black Sabbath, Retro?

Greetings Luke,

I'm not a big fan of Black Sabbath, though I do grant that Paranoid is a very good song. One of the bands I listed earlier, Inspiral Carpets, did a very good cover of Paranoid. The Cardigans, who featured early on in the countdown covered Iron Man (and maybe Paranoid as well)... and one band who has yet to be announced in the countdown actually did a cover of the song, Black Sabbath.

Yuh. Okay, then like they say in Monty Python, "And now for something completely different..."

This countdown of yours is a long journey, and perhaps we require some muffins, presented in the style of the glorious rock and roll tradition, to sustain ourselves over its duration:

Hey, that's an interesting find! I'd call it metal both because of its musical style (the double time part which starts at about 1:56 sounds like aggressive mosh pit music) and because of its lyrical content (witches!). I think that song could sound great if a modern metal band covered it using modern equipment.

But I think all rock/metal goes back to Chuck Berry. He wrote "Johnny B. Goode" in 1958. Chuck was the spirit of rock and roll all in one man.

Edit: Holy crap! Chuck is still alive! Long live Chuck!
