In your opinion what are the most awesome things about Buddhism?

Post by User1249x »

As far as i am concerned it is the wormholes, the seven suns, the Tathagata's constant ownage and the cosmology in general.

What would you deem as the most awesome?

I wrote an article on the appeal of Buddhism.

I would say my favorite things on that list are:

*A meditation technique beyond relaxation, but also for wisdom. There is a clear path for spiritual and personal development.
*Compatibility with biological evolution.

In my opinion, the single greatest, significant event in human history is the understanding that we are animals and evolved. Prior to that, there was the mistaken belief that we were created by a creator-god, completely separate from other animals. In my opinion, this is completely compatible with the Aggañña Sutta (evolving simple beings to more complex ones and no creator and the desire, craving element mentioned in this sutta compatible to natural selection). And the fact that rebirth includes the animal realm, thus our connection to other animals in that way too.

Cool, like on DS9 or Stargate?
Where are they mentioned in the suttas?

That is how Ven. Yuttadhammo told the story of the Dhammapada 49 and how i remembered it.
However i am not sure where he got the actual description of the wormhole. I tried to find it online but couldn't.
the Buddha was waiting with five hundred bhikkhus at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi, forty-five yojanas
away from Rajagaha. Maha Moggallana, by his supernormal power, then took both Kosiya and his wife together with their basket of
pancakes, to the presence of the Buddha.

it is the only system that with direct application and understand yields release from stress

It does not explain away the hard realities of life with bullshit mythologies but teaches one how to deal with it.

Andhakara Sutta: Darkness

"There is, monks, an inter-cosmic void, an unrestrained darkness, a pitch-black darkness, where even the light of the sun & moon — so mighty, so powerful — doesn't reach."

When this was said, one of the monks said to the Blessed One, "Wow, what a great darkness! What a really great darkness!
Over 2000 years later i also say - Wow

I like that the Buddha had forty teeth - as opposed to us regular people who have only 36. My wife has a very strong jaw line. She used to have 40 teeth before she had a couple pulled. Kay. I’m done bombing the board for the evening. Cheers.

It's a journey of discovery, rather than a taking on of beliefs.

I think there are many awesome things,
but what is most awesome, for meh, is:

The Buddho was able to find nibbāno
(it took 4 asaṅkheyya 100,000 aeons)
and we can also "enter it", at least reach
the "stream" to nibbāno.

I am a lover of freedom (my personalty),
Buddhism very suits to me, very well.

Being Buddhists only need to comply with
the 5 precepts, the rest we are free to do
(whatever), AS LONG AS WE DO NOT DISTURB
OTHERS. Of course those who wanna practice
high-practice must fulfill other assignments.
The five precepts are MORE THAN ENOUGH.

The way it can be so easily morphed into neoliberalism.
Western Buddhism is the perfect ideological supplement to rabid consumerist capitalism.

The unconditioned:

"Bhikkhus, there are these three characteristics that define the unconditioned.

What three? No arising is seen, no vanishing is seen, and no alteration while it persists is seen.

These are the three characteristics that define the
unconditioned."

Recently I find the most awesome thing to be just the Buddho mantra to be recited on daily basis in any occasion. So wonderful and fantastic. And so simple!
