Politics is boring

Post by Coëmgenu »

How do you tell if someone is an alt-righter?

They talk about the wicked system (gynocentrism) that is destroying us.

How do you tell is someone is a social justice warrior?

They talk about the wicked system (patriarchy) that is destroying us.

What is the Uncreated?
Sublime & free, what is that obscured Eternity?
It is the Undying, the Bright, the Isle.
It is an Ocean, a Secret: Reality.
Both life and oblivion, it is Nirvāṇa.

Yeah, as I have said many times before: Politics is a stupid game for mostly stupid people.

When, bhikkhus, a bhikkhu understands as they really are the origin and passing away of the six bases of contact, their satisfaction, unsatisfactoriness, and the escape from them, then he understands what transcends all these views. -- Brahmajāla Sutta

Yes, except, sadly, the immense suffering as a result of politics is  .

it is more like a perverse entertainment, no? the world can hardly be changed. in trying to control what is inconstant there is stress.

Were it not for the vast amounts of money that are involved in politics, and people's lives at stake!

Further than being boring, politics nowadays is toxic attachments to views and ideas. Its best to stay away.

Participating in the political process doesn't help in the search for personal peace, comfort or enlightenment, true, but failure to engage is a failure to put universal compassion into action - and how good is our practice if it is only directed to selfish ends?
“The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”― Edmund Burke (in a letter addressed to Thomas Mercer).

It's as true today as it was 200 years ago--except for now, in modern times, the sin of giving in to political apathy would be extended to women too.

That's from http://www.openculture.com/2016/03/edmu ... ction.html where you will find Burke's longer version of the same thought.

 Good post, Kim.

I often feel like some of the commenters here; that politics is a process best left alone as a waste of time and something which actively defiles those who take part in it. But then, occasionally, we see people who briefly manage to combine selfless morality with the ability to act or speak in favour of change in the world. Good people doing something, I guess - and it's completely uplifting.

Yes.

This is also why we split News and Politics topics from out of the Lounge, gave them their own section, and gave members the easy ability to "opt out" if they genuinely believe the former.

We respect both perspectives and have given people the means to easily customize their experience of the forum in line with their beliefs.

If however people genuinely see engagement in worldly matters to be a defilement, yet opt to see and participate in News topics that pertain to world matters and politics, then they have foregone any right to authentically complain about the existence of such discussion.

If it's genuinely a defilement, or if it's genuinely boring, or if it's genuinely a stupid game for stupid people... then opt out. It's really not hard, if people are being honest with themselves.

Metta,
Paul. :)

INdeed, for these reasons and other reasons I opt out of the political game.
