As I wrote I am increasingly finding age to be an asset. When I was in my teens Alvin Toffler and his books Future Shock and Third Wave were all the rage. He was the Yuval Noah Harari of 70s and 80s.

Future Shock: Why Alvin Toffler Was Wrong

The Muddled Legacy of Alvin Toffler

Google Translate uses AI https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Ne ... ranslation

I figured out an experiment to test it an hour back and this is the best it can do ..

Open three tabs in your browser and go to Google home page

In first tab type English to Spanish translation press enter / In second type tab Spanish to French translation press enter / In third tab type French to English translation press enter

Now see what happened --

Input --> The rat the cat killed ate the malt

Ouput 1 --> La rata que mató el gato comió la malta

Output 2 --> Le rat qui a tué le chat a mangé le malt

Output 3 --> The rat that killed the cat ate the malt

AI :? more like Idiot Intelligence .. it cannot process eight words and it will take away most jobs? Not possible.

What has that all to do with "artificial intelligence"?
Just call it "automation". There's no intelligence in it.
Yes, "artificial intelligence" is a buzzword mostly, IMO.

Civilization may collapse when professional StarCraft players lose their jobs to artificial intelligence.

Here is a good example of current state of AI .. okay for flirting few minutes but not yet good enough for prolonged conversations.

I thought will not share it .. but most of you have not encountered AI face to face .. chat a while with her

https://pandorabots.com/mitsuku/
Mitsuku is a Chatterbot created from AIML technology by Steve Worswick. It has won the Loebner Prize, which is awarded to the most "human-like" Chatbot, three times (in 2013, 2016, and 2017).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsuku
Look what happened few minutes back -

Mitsuku - I am Mitsuku. I want to be your friend.
No_Mind - Hi

M - Hi there.
NM - Where do you live

M - My location is Leeds. Where are you?
NM - I am in Patna

M - Tell me a little about your life in Patna.
NM - Its boring mostly

M - The Simpsons are not boring though. Do you like the Simpsons?
NM - I used to watch till I was 32

M - But now you do not do watch till I was 32 anymore? (lost track of grammar already .. and this is most advanced chatbot in this world .. can you imagine it helping your queries with credit cards anytime soon?)

A group from the University of Alberta, in partnership with two Czech universities, has made public a paper on DeepStack, an AI system that it believes is the first to consistently beat professional players at this extremely popular and challenging game. It’s important to note that the paper has not yet been peer-reviewed, so it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. But the team behind it has a history of accomplishments in the space that lend credence to its claims.
this is not quantum computing but still far superior to humans in terms of finding deviations from the optimal in the opponents frequencies and making exploitative adjustments. Also this particular bot did not use a GTO strategy to begin with, it was playing an exploitable strategy from beginning and adjusted while the players were sleeping. It was beating some of the arguably top 50 players in that format for a sick winrate and no standard human could do that consistently to a field like that.

old article tho, it's legit crushing

You seem to have very narrow view of what ai is all about....perhaps this will broaden your understanding:

I wrote that is an example of current state of AI (Mitsuku chatbot in the post after the one you quoted). Mitsuku cannot chat 4 lines in English (20 words or so) without slipping up and revealing "she" is a bot (as I showed)

I did not write that is all AI can do. We shall see in coming years what it can (and cannot do).

I am reminded of the hype surrounding hydrogen car and artificial heart back in 1980. The world's best scientists told us at that time that by year 2000 the internal combustion engine will be only found in the museum and that no one will ever suffer from a heart ailment anymore since we shall be able to get heart transplants as easily as cataract surgery.

That was the point I was trying to make.

Yes. You wrote that the chatbot was an indication of the state of AI....which it is not...it is an indication of the state of AI implementations for chatbots......which is a very very very narrow specialty in AI and certainly not representative of AI in general.

I really doubt that "the world's best scientists" made those predictions but I could be wrong. Googling "predictions about the future from 1980" found https://www.google.co.th/url?sa=t&rct=j ... CjaC0Bufcu. I didn't read every word of the article but I didn't find any of the world's best scientists being referenced there.....perhaps you could find something and bring it here. Perhaps in 1980 your concept of who was a "world's best scientist" was a bit distorted.....or maybe your memory is bad?.....or maybe you are right on the money and my memory is bad.....

If anyone else doubted me, I would try to prove my point but not to someone who believes authors are authoritarians and librarians are libertarians. After that statement, I doubt I can convince you of anything.
chownah wrote: Thu Dec 24, 2015 9:28 am I think there is a typo in the headings for the graph. Souldn't the opposite of authoritarian be librarian?

I mean you've got authors and you've got librarians. Authors write INDIVIDUAL books while librarians make COLLECTIONS of books.....what could be more opposite than that?

I hope this is not construed as a viscious attack on someone.
