he probably did not hate "immigrants" , if we investigate it is probably some cultural behaviors of an "out-group" is what he hated and he probably like an idiot spoke recklessly about it, generalizing and conceptualizing on account of ignorance and lack of skills. drawing horrible conclusions.
Same with gays probably, what is there to hate really. Most "homophobic" people i know they don't really care what people do in private, rather they dislike aspects of our culture, particular behaviors and views such as that they perceive to be harmful. Average person is too stupid not make these generalizations and act in self-interest, both in and the out group does this, only Arahants are completely free from this.

Oh for crying out loud. Forgiveness is one or the more debated terms in religious and spiritual circles, and it can be taken to mean a variety of things.

Do you have enough compassion for Cruz that you would cease feeling any resentment against him, in case he is let off without any punishment, and therefore have no objection to him being your neighbour or coworker or bank teller.

For that, one would have to feel resentment in the first place.

And if one does feel resentment, one needs to clarify toward what or whom exactly.
Toward Cruz? For what exactly? For betraying one's faith in humanity?
Toward the justice system for acquitting him, and thus letting you down?
Toward God for creating such a shitty world in which justice just doesn't get served as you see fit?
Toward evolution, because it brings about entities and phenomena you don't like?
