Is hatred always bad, if you hate what should be hated?

Post by alan » Mon Dec 18, 2017 1:36 am

Friends, I hate bad things.
If you do not, please explain here.
Because I am an aware person, who hates bad things. some things need to be hated. Otherwise, people will continue to be stupid, and ignorant.
Right?
Oh, please don't just give me this nonsense about how we should all be non-hateful. What we need to be is smarter in our judgments.

If anyone can show an example in the Suttas where Buddha tells us to be stupid in our judgements, to not be aware, and to not hate things that need to be hated, show it now.

I don't hate bad things. What exactly do you wish to know?

There are many, many instances in the suttas where the Buddha praises wisdom, and non-hatred. I don't recall him once advocating for hatred of any variety. To that end, I'd suggest the onus here is probably on you to find even a single sutta where the Blessed One promoted hatred of anything, let alone one where he says "hate things that need to be hated".

It is good to not hate things that need to be hated?

Nothing needs to be hated.

Trump need to be hated. Just as why anyone who would create a world as perverse as he would have it needs to be fought.

No. Trump is better met with metta, karuna, mudita and upekkha.

Same applies to any other sentient beings.

Maybe you can consider starting with "disagreement" towards Trump rather than "hatred". Regards

What you just said here is the inverse of the Blessed One's Dhamma.

My good friend Retro, why it is the inverse of the Dhamma to hate someone who preaches hate?

And, if you love someone who preaches hate, and has no respect for facts, are you, or are you not, a God Dam Idiot?
Answer: You are a God Dam Idiot. Because only God Dam Idiots are stupid enough to believe this total Bullsh*t.

Hatred is always bad, yes. It is an unwholesome mental quality, it leads to unskillful actions, and continuous suffering.

It is not bad to distinguish right from wrong, and to side with what is right, but it is bad to hate.

Alan, have you read the suttas? Disagreement is fine, as is siding with the good, and taking action, but hate is clearly negative for you, do you not see how it leads you away from peace and towards agitation? Do you try to understand the Buddha’s words?

See the quotes from the suttas I referenced in the other thread: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=30770#p448392

The suttas linked to immediately above by Nicholas are adequate to make my case.

Yeah, All the Jews should not be angry, they should not be hateful. They should not fight back!
Better to just give in,
Right?

Again, read the suttas and try to understand the Buddha’s words. It seems like you have a fundamental misunderstanding of them.

I had anger but never hate. Before the war, I was too busy studying to hate. After the war, I thought, What's the use? To hate would be to reduce myself.
Elie Weisel

We have adopted in the modern world a sort of a relativistic ethic... Most people can't stand up for their convictions, because the majority of people might not be doing it. See, everybody's not doing it, so it must be wrong. And since everybody is doing it, it must be right. So a sort of numerical interpretation of what's right. But I'm here to say to you this morning that some things are right and some things are wrong. Eternally so, absolutely so. It's wrong to hate. It always has been wrong and it always will be wrong. It's wrong in America, it's wrong in Germany, it's wrong in Russia, it's wrong in China. It was wrong in 2000 B.C., and it's wrong in 1954 A.D. It always has been wrong, and it always will be wrong. It's wrong to throw our lives away in riotous living. No matter if everybody in Detroit is doing it, it's wrong. It always will be wrong, and it always has been wrong. It's wrong in every age and it's wrong in every nation. Some things are right and some things are wrong, no matter if everybody is doing the contrary. Some things in this universe are absolute. The God of the universe has made it so. And so long as we adopt this relative attitude toward right and wrong, we're revolting against the very laws of God himself.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
