Different cosmic durations - just FYI

Post by Lombardi4 »

Earlier in the year, I was curious how long heaven and hell were, and how long did the Bodhisatta practice for - in terms of years. So I found out (I think in Wikipedia) how long an eon was and then calculated the various durations. Just for comparison, I have also shown the various important historical durations.

Just how mindbogglingly long Avīci Hell is! (longest duration of all!)

29 years = my age
80 years = human lifespan
70 years ago = Digital Revolution
300 years ago = Age of Enlightenment
2560 years ago = Buddha
3200 years ago = Dawn of Civilization
200,000 years ago = First humans appeared
4,000,000,000 years ago = Life appears
4,540,000,000 years = Age of Planet Earth
13,800,000,000 years = Big Bang to Now (Age of the Universe (AU))
320,000,000,000 = Asankya Kalpa (Medium Eon (Incalculable?))
1,280,000,000,000 years = Maha Kalpa (Great Eon (GE)) = 92.75 AU

107,520,000,000,000,000 years = Sphere of neither perception nor non-perception = 84,000 GE = 7,791,304 AU
3,397,386,240,000,000,000 years = Avīci Hell = 2,654,208 GE = 246,187,408 AU

128,001,280,000,000,000 years = The Bodhisatta's career from his wish to attain Buddhahood to his attainment of Buddhahood

Very interesting! Sometimes it's hard to comprehend time as a human.
A dying man can only rely upon his wisdom, if he developed it. Wisdom is not dependent upon any phenomenon originated upon six senses. It is developed on the basis of the discernment of the same. That’s why when one’s senses start to wither and die, the knowledge of their nature remains unaffected. When there is no wisdom, there will be despair, in the face of death.

Yes and I wonder do beings in different realms experience time the same way we do. I suspect not. Time is relative.
