Indeed. To me, it doesn't seem like a Dhammic sentiment.

Ikeda is a Mahayana - SGI Buddhist teacher and author. I wouldn't expect him to have a Classical Theravada or even a Modern Theravada view of nibbana and enlightenment. His view is probably the mainstream view of his religion - sect.

Yes, as Ikeda is a Mahayana Buddhist I doubt you will see much explicitly Theravada influence there.

Ikeda is the founding President of SGI, the largest of Japan’s “New Religions” and I beleive his views pretty well define the mainstream views of the sect, an outgrowth of Nichiren Buddhism.
