Greetings,

I've never seen it, so I can't really say. I'm not even 100% certain whether Cheerios are sold in mainstream supermarkets here.

(I must admit, I'm finding it slightly difficult to reconcile the Sovatthika who just days ago insisted we delete the music thread, and today's Sovatthika who starts a new topic to express their aversion with respect to a TV commercial... it feels like going from one extreme to another.)

Metta,
Paul. :)

acceptance of what is, and trying another tactic. i'm not a monk, there are lower standards for my behavior.

I don't know about cheerios but I find a lot of (most?) commercials pretty annoying - most marketing is about appealing to our base instincts, desires, and fears. This is not helpful for meditators!

Unless you count netflix, etc here and there, I don't watch TV, so I can't help on this one!
"People often get too quick to say 'there's no self. There's no self...no self...no self.' There is self, there is focal point, its not yours. That's what not self is."

Senses and the Thought-1, 42:53

"Those who create constructs about the Buddha,
Who is beyond construction and without exhaustion,
Are thereby damaged by their constructs;
They fail to see the Thus-Gone.

That which is the nature of the Thus-Gone
Is also the nature of this world.
There is no nature of the Thus-Gone.
There is no nature of the world."

Perhaps this sutta might give you seven tactics...

MN 2: Sabbasava Sutta
The Blessed One said, "Monks, the ending of the fermentations is for one who knows & sees, I tell you, not for one who does not know & does not see. For one who knows what & sees what? Appropriate attention & inappropriate attention. When a monk attends inappropriately, unarisen fermentations arise, and arisen fermentations increase. When a monk attends appropriately, unarisen fermentations do not arise, and arisen fermentations are abandoned. There are fermentations to be abandoned by seeing, those to be abandoned by restraining, those to be abandoned by using, those to be abandoned by tolerating, those to be abandoned by avoiding, those to be abandoned by dispelling, and those to be abandoned by developing.

And what are the fermentations to be abandoned by...
All the best.

My intuitive reaction is to treat commercials, as well as comedies, as examples of the absurdist genre.
To me, there intuitively isn't enough difference between, for example, "Waiting for Godot" and, for example, an ad like this.

The Lone Ranger doesn't seem especially annoying. If you want to see how annoying a cowboy commercial can be, try searching youtube for the "Milky Bar Kid".
