Re: should i abandon my possessions and become homeless
Be careful not to romanticize homelessness into something it isn't. It is not the same as being a monk or nun. Monastics receive food from lay people, live in fairly nice living quarters in monasteries with air conditioning and heating. Homelessness is very rough and tough and difficult to meet basic needs. It is not the same as being a wandering sramana in ancient India where the weather is mostly mild and the culture supports such ascetics.Dhammomhi wrote:i don't want them anymore, but i cling to them, but they give me no satisfaction

Re: should i abandon my possessions and become homeless
Are your debts of a kind that require regular repayments no matter what, thereby necessitating your being in regular paid employment? Or are they like certain kinds of student loan debt, where repayment is only required if you are earning? If they are of the latter sort, then you might consider going to reside in a monastery as a brahmacari layman or an anagarika.Dhammomhi wrote:i can't ordain because i have debt, and it's something i'll never be able to work off meaningfully

Aversion is also wanting. Also who told you, that your life has to give you satisfaction?Dhammomhi wrote:i don't want them anymore, but i cling to them, but they give me no satisfaction

Re: should i abandon my possessions and become homeless
@dhammanando, i didn't know student loans worked like that. well, a large portion of it is that, and that rest is credit cards. @david snyder, i get that it's rough, but it comes with fair blamelessness, no? if i provided my own housing and transportation and such, i'd be more inclined to be a layperson. but i'm dependent on someone i barely speak to for room and board, and then i give roughly half of my income to my mom
i've been dependent on someone basically my whole life, and it sickens me. i wouldn't have all this debt if i hadn't become a loser drug addict. i got a pali book but i haven't really gotten to read it yet. it seems like i can barely concentrate
