"Then you understand the brilliance of the Buddha's teaching of anatta, goes right to the heart of everything. They say the Dhamma is the source, not going to it's consequences not papancha, but going right into the very middle, the very essence, the very heart, the atta what you take to be you. From the body into the mind thinking, from the mind into the doer, from the doer into the knower. You can see you're not the knower, you can see you're not the doer..."

A socialist is just someone who is unable to get over his or her astonishment that most people who have lived and died have spent lives of wretched, fruitless, unremitting toil. Terry Eagleton, Ideology: An Introduction.
When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist. Hélder Câmara, Essential Writings.

Looks like it's the two of us that occupy that age bracket in the poll -- DOB 1942 or 1943.Bhikkhu Pesala wrote:I am 54 plus VAT.

One of the benefits of getting old is that you lose the ability to calculate your age.cjmacie wrote:Looks like it's the two of us that occupy that age bracket in the poll -- DOB 1942 or 1943.Bhikkhu Pesala wrote:I am 54 plus VAT.
World's oldest man dies at 146.

I know that you are between 60 and 70. Am I a mind reader?
Re: How old are you?
How do you compute that? (Hint: google "UK VAT"...)purple1 wrote:...cjmacie wrote: Looks like it's the two of us that occupy that age bracket in the poll -- DOB 1942 or 1943.Bhikkhu Pesala wrote:I am 54 plus VAT.

Re: How old are you?
wish i wasn't, as a 20 year-old, grouped with 11 year-old kids @_@
Born, become, arisen – made, prepared, short-lived
Bonded by decay and death – a nest for sickness, perishable
Produced by seeking nutriment – not fit to take delight in
Departure from this is peaceful – beyond reasoning and enduring
Unborn, unarisen – free from sorrow and stain
Ceasing of all factors of suffering – stilling of all preparations is bliss

Re: How old are you?
I sympathise with that but have to say that the difference between 11 and 20 is much greater to the 20 year old than to a 40 or 60 year old.maranadhammomhi wrote:wish i wasn't, as a 20 year-old, grouped with 11 year-old kids @_@
It's greater still to the 11 year old. Put yourself in their place for a moment and you might not feel so bad.
If we wanted to mark off age groups that feel equal instead of those that look equal, I think we would have a tapered increase and decrease - say, 0-5, 5-15, 15-30, 30-50, 50-65, 65-75, 75-85, 85-90 ... and then it doesn't matter any more.

Re: How old are you?
Being born on an even decade, this should be a simple thing for me to calculate, and yet I often forget how old I am. Lets see, 1960 plus a few decades, it's 2017 but haven't had my birthday yet, carry the one... I am 56!
