Will Bhikkhu Bodhi be translating the entire Khuddaka Nikaya?

Post by zan » Tue Mar 07, 2017 2:59 am

I just saw that he did one book from it, the Suttanipata. Does anyone know if he intends on translating the entire thing? I have the other four Nikayas on my shelf and it would be so amazing to finally have the complete Sutta Pitaka to read!!!
I don't have much knowledge of the Dhamma, I'm just a beginner. Keep that in mind before you take anything I say too seriously

If I recall correctly, in a talk I listened to he hinted that he was working on it, but didn't want to say too much. Unfortunately I can't remember which talk it was.
The furniture may be exquisite,
And the bars of solid gold,
But once the bird realizes that the cage is a cage,
It finds within that cage
No joy

I'm not sure, but I suspect he would probably go after the main early portions, at least at first. These are texts such as the Khudakkapatha, Dhammapada, Udana, Sutta Nipatta, Itivuttaka, etc... There are much larger technical works in the Khuddaka Nikaya such as the Niddesa and the Patisambhidamagga that probably have a much less broad appeal, so I am a bit more doutfull about their translation.
The non-doing of any evil,
The performance of what's skillful,
The cleansing of one's own mind:
This is the Buddhas' teaching.

Good point. The Khudakka Nikaya is so huge!

I thought he only referred to the Sutta Nipata.

Suttanipata is a great news, but I hope next project will be Digha -)
