Buying a zafu/zabuton

Post by adamposey » Sun Nov 08, 2009 4:39 am

Well.. I'm not exactly the richest college student around.. but I've decided I need to purchase these two things. Put simply.. I have hardwood floors and I've been using my blanket and a pillow to fill this need but it's still not that comfortable. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good place to buy them from? Amazon is preferable because I can get free 2-day shipping there, but I'm not picky. :)

You may want to consider the zafu/zabuton sets from Dharma Crafts. The fabric is cotton duck that wears like iron, the construction is first rate, and they have lots of nice colors. One nice feature is that the zafu cover is zippered for easy washing. May be a little pricier than Amazon, I didn't check, but sales of their items go to support the Dharma.

High quality and used in a lot of meditation centers here in NYC. I've a set for years and it hasn't worn out yet. Be well.

To avoid all evil, to cultivate good, and to cleanse one's mind — this is the teaching of the Buddhas.

My only prolonged experience has been with the kapok cushions from Carolina Morning. Although it may be due solely to my wear pattern, I can sit on my cushions (in siddhasana and half lotus) for far longer than on the randomly encountered zafu/zabuton in the wild which are usually filled with hulls.
