Just 1,433 days until the 2014 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Rio de Janeiro! I'll get the calendar out! Qualifying will begin with Pacific Games in New Caledonia on August 27th 2010.

What's the surprise about a boring match? This is football [soccer] we are talking about, right? :D

I still like it though, at least the once every four year kind, that is. I don't think I could get into it on a regular basis, though.

Congrat's to Spain!

Hello all,

Not wishing to alienate all the football-fanatics, but ....

What sport is as boring as watching paint dry? .....

The final was dull in the first half. with Holland simply and brutally and cynically blocking the superior footballing skills of the Spanish team. But the second half became fascinating as Spain probed deeper and deeper, and of course the Dutch brutality of the first half was inhibited in the second by the number of yellow cards given out by the ref.
In the end in extra time Spain scored and it was absolutely right that they did. They were by some length the best team in the tournament. Sublime individual skills and crucially the players with those skills, forged into a team.
A superb manager.

I felt that is what Spain did to Germany: block the game. So they just got it back... :stirthepot:
