Compromised by lowly aspirations,
The Hero builds intent on worldly gains,
He was steadfast but now he's losing footing,
As by temptations is his mind assailed
Sedated by the poison of the leeches
The Life-force quickly dissipates
As the Path becomes obscured by drunken stupor
then wisdom is reduced to that of cattle
Herded to Death that he does not perceive
Society - it's hard to see this Institution
Captivity - is the name of the game
The King of Death in charge of Executions
The Arahants are free, true victors unparalleled
I like writing poems it is like distilling an essay to make a concentrate

There's a thread over at discourse.suttacentral, where you can post a haiku about your biggest pet peeve about Buddhism.

When I lust,
When I lust for chocolate cake,
Nobody seems to care,
No Nobody seems to care,
That I'm so much older than that cake.
That's why,
That's why,
I've been tryin' to confine
My lust to chocolate cake.
(Or maybe it's because lust for chocolate cake is less likely to lead to breaking a precept -- old poem, new reason, old person.)

A Seasonal Abiding
Long winters aid believing spring could last
Bodies making nests where shadows melt
As temperatures are plummeting, aghast!
We wonder then if pleasure's what was felt.
No permanent oasis is discerned
A seasonal abiding is the rule
Awareness of the spokes as fortune turns
Now sharpens heart-space wisdom, misery's lull.
This time around won't be the very same
With nature set in vivid, stark relief
What hue can be invoked? For colors change
Who'd stop from falling crimson maple leaves?
If happy we be as delights do grow,
When sorrow comes we must learn to let go.
