Problem Editing Link in Signature

Post by Virgo »

I don't think the BBCode in my signature is working correctly. It's displaying working links now which use the url code (I can't type it here because it reads it as code) for links just fine but when I try to edit them I get an error message that says:

"You cannot use certain BBCodes: [url]." in bold magenta text.

I am pretty sure I have the format right. Is there any other explanation or has anyone else experienced this problem?

Note: even when just going to the page to edit my signature - without trying to submit anything or preview anything yet - the message is already there above where my current signature is displayed.

Thanks,

Kevin

Greetings Kevin,

Can you show us the code you're trying to use?

You can show us code without the system trying to code the code, by highlighting the relevant section with the </> button.

I checked the settings, bbcode is enabled. I thought it might be my grammarly app because it has access to the site but that is not the culprit because I disabled it but I am still having the same problem.

Greetings Kevin,

I've found the culprit. The "Allow use of links in user signatures" parameter in the Admin Control Panel had been set to No.

I have now set it to Yes, so it should work.

However, I suspect there was an intentional reason why it was set to No in the past, but I cannot recall what it was.

If issues arise due to the change in settings we may need to change it back in the future but hopefully we won't need to...

OK Paul thank you. I never posted anything that could be considered offensive or controversial in the past, so I can't imagine why it would be set that way, but thanks for resetting it.

No, it wouldn't have been you - it was a "board level" setting, not a "user level" setting.

Got it, and I tried it and can confirm it is working properly now. Thanks for looking into it, Paul.
