Well, you can buy ads. If your organization has charity status (depending on country) there is a Google grant program that provides free ads. But I don't believe DW has that status.

Is there a competition? What's the prize if one wins?

Re: Dhammawheel is not growing - because it has zero SEO
Webmaster fixed those.Circle5 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 11:57 am I found the problem. DhammaWheel does not have a proper redirect set up to redirect from the www version to the non-www version. Also no proper redirect for the trailing slash at the end (sometimes it's dhammawheel.com/, other times it's without a trailing slash).
Someone complained that the Theravada description in the header didn't have the proper diacritic, so we put the correct Pali spelling with the diacritic. Problem now is that google does not read that as "Theravada" but rather some other word. We might need to change back that if we want increased google traffic.
Webmaster said that links from other sites, linking to here, improve google rankings. So those of you who edit wikipedia or have youtube channels, facebook, etc; if you could add some links to some discussions here and that will also improve ranking.
Re: Dhammawheel is not growing - because it has zero SEO
I think you have to go with what most people use, and lose the diacritic because it won't be in most people's search string.DNS wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 2:42 am

Can't alternatives be put into meta-data?

OK, for me, starting with a "clean" Firefox (all configuration files wiped) my Google results for "buddhist discussion forum" now has:
FreeSangha
Buddhism Without Boundaries
Dharma Wheel - Index Page
Dhamma Wheel - Index Page
...
So that's progress.

Re: Dhammawheel is not growing - because it has zero SEO
However, it's odd that we have:
Mike
Dhamma Wheel - Index page
https://www.dhammawheel.com/
A forum for beginners and members of other Buddhist traditions to ask questions about Theravāda (The Way of the Elders). Responses require moderator ...
Why is is picking descriptions of sub-forums, not something global, such as:Dharma Wheel - Index page
https://www.dharmawheel.net/
Academic Discussion A forum for those wishing to discuss Buddhist history and teachings in the Western academic manner, referencing appropriate sources.
A Buddhist forum on the Dhamma of the Theravāda
?A Buddhist discussion forum on Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism

Re: Dhammawheel is not growing - because it has zero SEO
"A Buddhist forum on the Dhamma of the Theravāda" is not a meta description tag as far as I can see. Hence it is not showing up in the way you want. DW has no meta descriptionmikenz66 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 3:08 am However, it's odd that we have:Why is is picking descriptions of sub-forums, not something global, such as:Dhamma Wheel - Index page

Re: Dhammawheel is not growing - because it has zero SEO
Maybe DhammaWheel could place advertisments on those forums?
Buddha save me from new-agers!
Re: Dhammawheel is not growing - because it has zero SEO
Dhamma Wheel is advertised on Dharma Wheel and Dharma Wheel is advertised here.
They are sister sites after all.

Good job. The URL canonicalization problem is fixed. But the trailing slash problem has not been fixed. Take a look at "server behavior": http://nibbler.silktide.com/en_US/repor ... awheel.comDNS wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 2:42 amWebmaster fixed those.Circle5 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 02, 2018 11:57 am I found the problem. This needs another code inserted into httaccess file. The one making it redirect on the trailing slash does not always work, so one might chose to redirect to non-trailing slash.
The other issues I have brought up in PM have not been fully fixed. The description has been fixed, but images have not been SEO optimized. About the metta description that people are speaking arond here, I don't know what to say. There should be a way to set this or one might add a module to set it. I really don't know.
