... instead I got people who doubt jhanas are possible or useful. So quite the opposite.
Those must be "Seven Fold Path" practitioners! :D

From Araṇavibhaṅga Sutta
“Bhikkhus, a bhikkhu attains to the first dhyana. . . second dhyana. . . third dhyana. . . fourth dhyana. To this is said the non sensual pleasure, the pleasure of seclusion, appeasement and enlightenment. It should be practised, made much and should not be feared, I say.”

And please don't argue with the post. It is much easier for the moderating team to split off one or two off-topic posts than to trawl through a topic sorting between the on-topic posts and the off-topic ones, and the replies to the off topic ones, and the replies to the replies... The time that takes can be prohibitive...
Yes, sometimes it's very difficult to learn something from an old thread without wasting time just because of the amount of derailing posts. This also goes for off-topic jokes. Otherwise, well-intended jokes actually help to understand Dhamma points easily for those without a deep understanding on the topic.
“Kālāmas, do not go by oral tradition, by lineage of teaching, by hearsay, by a canonical tradition, by logical reasoning, by inferential reasoning, by reasoned cogitation, by the acceptance of a view after pondering it, by the seeming competence of a speaker, or because you think: ‘The ascetic is our guru.’”
