Seems appropriate as Buddhist history is not well taught in most countries or in some cases even censored and redacted i am sure.
Yes to history sub-forum.

Re: history sub-forum
Greetings,
We generally only create new sections, when the current setup does not enable certain topics to be addressed adequately.
I see no reason for this to be done in relation to Buddhist History, nor have we ever seen enough interest in the subject to devote an entire subforum to it.
If you wish to start a topic on Buddhist History, then by all means please do. If it becomes evident that (for whatever reason) such topics cannot be discussed under the current forum structure, then we'll consider it.
But until then...
Metta,
Paul.

I would also like to see a thread on Buddhist history. But I agree with Paul, it would be hard to get enough content for a whole new sub thread.
One issue I could foresee is fake information and debates about what is historical. For example I seem to remember a thread claiming the Buddha was born in Sri Lanka. Obviously Buddhist history is far from completely understood, but how could we help lead the thread towards being more of generally accepted Buddhist history?
Another idea would be to make the posts linear. Possibly spending a certain number of days or weeks on any given time frame after the Buddha's death.

A dying man can only rely upon his wisdom, if he developed it. Wisdom is not dependent upon any phenomenon originated upon six senses. It is developed on the basis of the discernment of the same. That’s why when one’s senses start to wither and die, the knowledge of their nature remains unaffected. When there is no wisdom, there will be despair, in the face of death.

Re: history sub-forum
this could actually be great, and it's a shame that it isn't even considered by retro when there are subforums for useless posts about sports, music, politics and philosophy, etc. how all buddhist history could be covered in one thread?

Re: history sub-forum
As suggested, obviously Buddhist history is far from completely understood. For example, the above webpage says King Ajātasattu sponsored the First Council 544 B.C. Yet Wikipedia says the First Buddhist council was convened just after the Buddha's passing away in ca. 400 BCE. Wiki suggests the Buddha's life was c. 563 BCE/480 BCE – c. 483 BCE/400 BCE. It seems doubtful any of the different views above are historical.Dhammarakkhito wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2018 4:40 am"The Origin of the Pali Canon" for you friend www.palicanon.org
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

Re: history sub-forum
Don't forget the Early Buddhism sub-forum here. That certainly can include threads on Buddhist history. Later history could be added to General Theravada or other appropriate places here. Come to think of it, it would probably end up being quite redundant with an Early Buddhism sub-forum and a Buddhist history sub-forum.

Hello David. Can you show me where to find the account of the 1st Buddhist Council in the Cūllavagga of the Vinaya Piṭaka? Thank you

Not sure if it is online yet in English (I have the hard copy PTS version in English), but I believe most of it is in Chapter XI, including this famous line where there is no mention of Abhidhamma. (Although other opinions vary and say the five Nikayas mentioned includes Abhidhamma.)
"Then the venerable Kassapa the Great questioned the venerable Ananda as to the provenance of the Samannaphala and he questioned him as to the individual. In this same way he questioned him about the five Nikayas. Constantly, questioned, the venerable Ananda answered."
