I continue to experience this problem.
Is this a site maintenance issue?

HTTP 500

Post by sattva » Thu Dec 18, 2014 1:25 am

We have been having a lot of connection problems in the chat room and now I am getting quite a lot of HTTP 500 Error messages on the forum, as well. Is anyone else having problems?

After regular HTTP 500 Error messages, I just got this one:
500 Error, server overload, heavy traffic If this problem persists, email site administrator: david@thedhamma.com We don't need no education We dont need no thought control No dark sarcasm in the classroom I don't need no arms around me And I dont need no drugs to calm me. I have seen the writing on the wall. Don't think I need anything at all. No! Don't think I'll need anything at all. All in all it was all just bricks in the wall. All in all you were all just bricks in the wall.

I'm getting this message almost everytime I go to the site, and often when I click on a topic as well, and also I don't like Pink Floyd!!
18 years ago I made one of the most important decisions of my life and entered a local Cambodian Buddhist Temple as a temple boy and, for only 3 weeks, an actual Therevada Buddhist monk. I am not a scholar, great meditator, or authority on Buddhism, but Buddhism is something I love from the Bottom of my heart. It has taught me sobriety, morality, peace, and very importantly that my suffering is optional, and doesn't have to run my life. I hope to give back what little I can to the Buddhist community, sincerely former monk John

Yeah it's been worse than usual today. These problems have been happening since at least October, judging by the thread I made in the Suggestions forum.

Our server is getting obsolete and is having many technical issues. We will be upgrading our sever over the next few days and then hopefully the problems should be solved, at least for a few more years. Check back to the Dhamma Wheel on facebook page for updates if you can't get into Dhamma Wheel, Dharma Wheel or other associated sites.

Be sure to book mark the Dhamma Wheel on facebook page if you haven't already so you can check there for any updates as it is getting especially hard to get a page loaded lately.

Update #2: Temporary increase in the RAM memory until we switch over to the new server, therefore, should be less error messages for now.

Hi David,

Does Dharma Wheel (the sister site) have a Facebook group too? If so, could you post the link when you have a chance?

Thanks for keeping us updated, and for all that you do.

Thanks David! I am noticing an improvement tonight. I wondered if some of it could be my computer because I am noticing problems with yahoo, yahoo mail, and other sites as well. This has been especially true with the holiday season. Are people noticing problems with those things, also? Kohl's has been especially bad. At times, I gave up trying to order something and tried to come back later at a time when I thought there would be less people online.

I get intermittent problems with Yahoo.

And yeah, this site is much better since David posted about that RAM upgrade.

I have merged the 2 topics so we don't have to repeat posts / updates.

Update #3

The server will be upgraded to 4 cores at 3.3 GHz, 8 GB RAM and the bandwith will be 40 TB

Currently the server we have is only 2 GB of RAM and the bandwith I believe is only 100 GB.

If you are not familiar with computer lingo, the RAM is how much traffic a site can handle at one time and bandwith is how much traffic a site can handle in one month.

1 terabyte = 1,000 gigabytes

Therefore, we will be going from 2 GB to 8 GB (roughly 4 times more) RAM
And 100 GB bandwith to 40,000 GB bandwith
