Suttavada

Post by Aniccato » Tue Nov 05, 2019 10:48 am

A new forums section called Suttavada where all posts need to be Sutta related and no commentary. This would help people know what the Buddha actually said and keep to the canon. Thank you.

The closest thing we have is the "Classical Theravada" section where you can tailor your questions so the only response would be sutta quotes. Literally, you can include a request that "All responses must be sutta quotes". We will assist you in moderating it accordingly if you notify us beforehand, and throughout you could report posts throughout that do not fit your criteria in order to get the most out your topic.

A new sub-forum with that stipulation would likely have very little activity.

Greetings,

You could probably also do the same thing in Early Buddhism too.

In terms of scope, it's generally recognised as pre-Abhidhamma and pre-Commentary, although some people (unless you specifically request otherwise) might reference corresponding agamas.

Metta,
Paul. :)
"The uprooting of identity is seen by the noble ones as pleasurable; but this contradicts what the whole world sees." (Snp 3.12)

"It is natural that one who knows and sees things as they really are is disenchanted and dispassionate." (AN 10.2)

“Truth does not change according to our ability to stomach it.” (Flannery O'Connor)

Hi there. Personally, I doubt it will help because commentary is generally an opinion on sutta. Even if there was only sutta, the disagreements about what the Buddha actually said would continue. With metta
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.
