Peace, from Marietta, GA USA

Post by docwood1997 »

:anjali: Hi, all!

I have been tinkering with Buddhism on and off since I was in college (back before the Flood, but never mind) and finally got serious about it some ten years ago. I was very confused and floundering until I found What the Buddha Taught and decided that the Theravadan school made the most sense to me. I have been studying that for a couple of years now but still floundering around on my own as all that's available in my area IRL is Tibetan, non-denominational/Western, or mindfulness/insight meditation completely divorced from actual Buddhism. That's all well and good, but Theravada is what I want to study right now, have a solid foundation before I venture into other branches. There's a temple 3 hours from my house round trip, but most of their activities/services are in Sinhalese. So I have been feeling the lack of a community for some time, finally decided (doh!) to see if I could find an on-line community, and was delighted to find you all in about the first five minutes!

This will be me for the next forty-eleven months: :coffee:

Welcome!
It seems I am going to learn something from you from your first post.
What is meant by " forty-eleven months"?

Welcome!

:namaste:
Liberation is the inevitable fruit of the path and is bound to blossom forth when there is steady and persistent practice. The only requirements for reaching the final goal are two: to start and to continue. If these requirements are met there is no doubt the goal will be attained. This is the Dhamma, the undeviating law.
