Hello all!!

Post by doublerepukken » Fri Dec 22, 2017 5:25 am

Greeting everyone!

My name is Ethan, and I am teacher here in Thailand, originally from the USA. I grew up without religion and my wife has been exposing me to Theravada, and I think I have finally found what I've been looking for. I am reading through the Nikayas, and hope to learn here and grow in my spirituality. :buddha1:

Cool, your kamma brought you to Thailand -- and Theravada.

To study is to know the texts,
To practice is to know your defilements,
To attain the goal is to know and let go.

- Ajahn Lee Dhammadharo

With mindfulness immersed in the body
well established, restrained
with regard to the six media of contact,
always centered, the monk
can know Unbinding for himself.

- Ud 3.5

Ultimately, your meditation involves sustaining the knowing, followed by continuous letting go as you experience sense objects through the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind. It involves just this much and there is no need to make anything more out of it.

That is very fortunate for you...you owe your wife an unpayable debt :)
susukhaṃ vata nibbānaṃ,
asokaṃ virajaṃ khemaṃ,
yattha dukkhaṃ nirujjhatī

Oh! extinction is so very blissful,
As taught by the One Rightly Self-Awakened:
Sorrowless, stainless, secure;
Where suffering all ceases

etaṁ santaṁ etaṁ panītaṁ yadidaṁ sabbasaṅkhārasamatho sabbūpadhipaṭi nissaggo taṇhakkhayo virāgo nirodho nibbānaṁ

This is peaceful, this is excellent, that is: the stilling of all fabrications, the relinquishment of all attachments, the destruction of craving, detachment, cessation, extinction.
