Greeting from the Pacific Northwest!

Post by James_P » Wed Feb 17, 2016 8:34 am

Hey I'm James.

Started studying dhamma about a month ago. Starting to hit my stride with regular meditation practice and dhamma study. Looking for a place to read discussion and find a Theravada community.

I'm a barista at Starbucks, and I am attending college part-time. I enjoy the outdoors quite a bit. Also, I consume non-fiction pretty voraciously, be it news, books, or podcasts. The latter two tend to be fairly science focused.

Looking forward to reading your posts, and perhaps jumping in at some point!

Hi James and welcome to DW!
“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”
- Cormac McCarthy, The Road

Learn this from the waters:
in mountain clefts and chasms,
loud gush the streamlets,
but great rivers flow silently.

Welcome!

:namaste:
To study is to know the texts,
To practice is to know your defilements,
To attain the goal is to know and let go.

- Ajahn Lee Dhammadharo

With no struggling, no thinking,
the mind, still,
will see cause and effect
vanishing in the Void.
Attached to nothing, letting go:
Know that this is the way
to allay all stress.
