Re: Buddha to Buddha
I am not fussed at all. We are talking about jewelry here, items that either most of us here or our partner use. Nothing evil. I don't feel I own the word "Buddha" and if they want to use it, if people use Buddha statues to prop their doors, etc what can I do? I don't worry about these thi...

The less common BPA bottles may indeed pose some risk, but not the common PET bottles from what I know.

Re: Dalai Lama steps down as Tibetan leader
I don't think the temporal/spiritual duality is something that's cast in stone. One can be "in the world but not of the world" while discharging all one's duties with the wisdom brought by dedicated practice and cultivation. Asoka is of course a famous example, although he was not a monk. ...

Re: Begginer with confusion inside myself
Hi Stop to Think, As far as I can tell, the Buddhist path regardless of the school, starts with a resolution to take an honest look at one's life, take responsibility for one's thoughts and actions and strive to do better both in relation to oneself and others around you. In practical terms, it is t...

Re: Questions, Questions, Questions...
Thanks for the responses guys, I will attend one of the groups. Is there any reason why I should stay away from the New Kadampa groups in particular? And thank you for that link cooran but I'd already poached it from another thread :) it's how I know about the Tibetan groups close by Bluishpurple :...
Re: Pingu
Pingu is an old Swiss cartoon from the 80ies I believe. My wife (who is Swiss) grew up with it and we made sure we have some for our kids as well! They love it!! I think it is fairly well-known in Europe. It's just the American kids it seems who grow up on a diet of hyperactive Warner Bros cartoons....

Re: Questions, Questions, Questions...
From my limited experience one of the main differences between the groups is the actual person of the teacher and their lineage. Some Tibetan groups may be very well disposed towards Theravada and may actually engage in anapanasati. Others may look down on you and do very different practices. Others...

Re: A Critique of Brahmavamso’s “The Jhanas”
I apologize in advance to the learned members for my naive question, but if Ven Brahmavamso was indeed teaching and practicing this apperceptive samadhi which basically results in a rebirth as a vegetable, would he be the extremely active and hard-working monk that he is today?

Re: Yasodhara and Rahula
Thank you folks for the links and suggestions.
Yes, the children's course is mostly stories, but the question I meant to ask was primarily a scholarly one. Is the story of Siddhartha leaving Yasodhara and Rahula part of early suttas or likely to be a later addition?

Yasodhara and Rahula
(Apologies if this has already been discussed) Hello Learned Folks! Recently in a chat I was asked how the Buddha could've left his wife and a baby in pursuit of the truth. I could rig up an answer or two but I also recalled reading in the footnotes of one of the biographies (by David Kalupahana, I ...

Re: Suggestions/advice about starting a group meditation session
If you manage to attract enough people who practice in a similar way to you, this is probably ideal. Otherwise try to still keep it under a "Buddhist banner". If it's just a "meditation" group, you may find people bringing Enya, swaying and humming or indeed banging a shamanic dr...

Re: Ask A Teacher.
I find it worthwhile to hear from the ordained members perspective as well as many of the non-ordained. Definitely good to create an environment where the venerables feel welcome and I hope to be able to see many more posts from them.
