Re: New subject - Is it like that?
Is it like that? The way to nirvana, that you get much more times with only(just) little hapiness and just Little dissapointment more closer to nirvana one is? I have never heard or read anything to support this line of thinking. What I have heard and read is that one gets more and more equanimous ...

Re: Missionaries in India: Conversion or Coercion?
Excerpt from Goenkaji's address at Millennium World Peace Summit : Much has been said here about conversion, both for and against. Far from being opposed to conversion, I am in favor of it—but not conversion from one organized religion to another. No, the conversion must be from misery to happiness....

Re: Buddhism and Islam
His argumentation goes roughly :' there is misery , which is due to desire. To get rid of misery you must remove desire , i.e. by following the 8th fold Nobel Path. That means: to do so you must have desire in order to remove desire , which is contradictory , therefore the 4 Noble Truths cannot sta...

Re: AN 3.64 Sarabha
From this I feel I have learnt: 1. Sarabha had most likely learnt the Dhamma Um, no. Sarabha did not understand Dhamma and you did not understand the sutta. Buddha questioned him in the manner in he did for the benefit of the assembled people, including Sarabha himself. If Sarabha had indeed unders...

Month 5
Fourth month of daily sitting is over. A month of great growth, as illustrated by the facts that: I did not miss a single sitting. Sure most morning sittings were done in late afternoon and most evening sittings late at night, but I did not skip a single sitting. I do not have to fight myself to do ...

Re: disturbing noise and anger
please give me some advice, so I can be at peace even with all that noise. I live in a very noisy part of a very noisy city in a very noisy country. The house is not of good construction and basically all the outside noise comes in. There is a huge interesction and a lot of traffic noise 24 hours a...

Re: Why Procrastinators Procrastinate
Terrific, thanks for sharing Mkoll. There is so much truth in this excerpt [taken from How to Beat Procrastination ] No one "builds a house." They lay one brick again and again and again and the end result is a house. Procrastinators are great visionaries—they love to fantasize about the b...

Re: What should be the right attitude towards meditation?
I do not look forward towards my morning and evening 1 hour sitting. I have to really struggle with my mind in order to sit for meditation. Once I sit, however, I meditate well and the effects after meditation are also good for the next 24 hours. I started meditating around August 15th (just 20 min...

Re: Jhanas and Hindrances
So I wonder, where is this repetitive structure of misunderstanding coming from? Ignorance of the people who misunderstand and then spread their misunderstanding to others as wisdom? How many people who contest these jhana versus 'dry-insight' issues on internet are actually practicing anapanasati ...

Re: I'd rather be reborn
I'm starting to think I'd rather be born again. I mean, what's the point of not existing? The absence of dukkha? I'd rather live and suffer than not have ANY experience. People say, Nibbana is not non-existence. I don't know how they can say that. If you are not born, you don't exist -- period. How...
