Re: Tibet and The Dalai Lama

Laurens, I think your reasoning is deceptive and flawed. You are trying to build a case that the invasion of Tibet was justified , and that I plainly reject. You just asserted that without any basis whatsoever, in my entire post did I ever say I feel that the invasion of Tibet was justified? But yo...

Re: Retro's Rockers

Can someone tell me....is this heavy metal or is it grunge? chownah http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bMtk5Lor_0E" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Hey, that's an interesting find! I'd call it metal both because of its musical style (the double time part which starts at about 1:...

Re: Retro's Rockers

Greetings, Ah, Luke... but that would be telling! :spy: Now, here's a band who sounds nothing like Black Sabbath or Type O Negative... Yuh. Okay, then like they say in Monty Python, "And now for something completely different..." This countdown of yours is a long journey, and perhaps we r...

Are you referring to Type O Negative?

Re: How does one's karma produce external events?

Hi, Luke, I'm not sure kamma is responsible for the rock. But it might be responsible for the serial killer being reborn in hell after getting hit by the rock. In that case, the natural event (loose rock) provided an opportunity for the kamma to reach fruition. Very interesting! So, some of the cau...

Re: Retro's Rockers

I feel compelled to add some Black Sabbath, the godfathers of heavy metal:

How does one's karma produce external events?

I also posted this on Dharma Wheel. I'm curious what sorts of responses it will get here. It is one of the burning questions that I think about: I could find it understandable if a person later experienced some type of mental suffering in his/her present life or next life as a result of doing some b...

No group of people deserve to suffer like that, even though it happened to be their karma. Such a view lacks compassion, which is an essential...

Re: Which texts did the Mahāsāṃghikas dispute?

Yuh. It would have made more sense to even check the veracity of the claim in Wiki first, by looking for its source, and taking the direction from there. Hi Ven. Huifeng, Good point. The source of the info in that quote isn't directly cited in the article, but I would guess that it came from either...

Which texts did the Mahāsāṃghikas dispute?

I read the following interesting lines on wikipedia: According to one account, the Mahāsāṃghika sect was formed in the first Buddhist schism around 320 BCE. It split from the Sthaviravāda (Elders) school over disputes about the authenticity of certain texts which the Mahāsāṃghikas claimed had been i...

viññāna-sota (mind-stream)

Hello,

Could someone please tell me where I can find more information about the concept of viññāna-sota (mind-stream)? I'd like to understand this concept better.

Is viññāna-sota part of the five skandhas or is it something beyond them?

What keeps our individual mind-streams separate?

Re: I'm a new vegetarian! Some questions...

I actually struggle to tell people I'm vegetarian. Technically, I'm probably not as I will eat whatever is offered if we go out. The last thing I want is for friends to go to extra effort and provide something vegetarian for me, when I think its healthier for me to just accept whatever is given. ki...

Re: New to Buddhism...stuck in the Bible Belt

That's good that you and your family are not in danger. I once read a horrifying news story about two men in Texas who beat a young boy to death because he refused to believe in Jesus. Religious fanatics can get creepy when they get into that "purging Satan from a person by violence" minds...

Re: New to Buddhism...stuck in the Bible Belt

I've since told my former church that I've converted, as well as my father, and I'm sure that by next week the whole town will have heard about it...so I'm curious to see what will happen the next time I go to the supermarket! lol While I'm happy that you found Buddhism, I hope that you and your fa...
