Re: Buddhist Asceticism and the first council

Re: Jhāna in the Śāriputrābhidharma-śāstra
Very interesting.
Is this from Tipitaka?
What I notice interesting here is that developing mindfulness leads to attaining Jhana.
How about the seven factors of enlightenment? How does it fit here?
What are the five noble faculties? Is this five Indriya?

Re: When Tathagata was teaching, who was teaching?
There is no other way to answer when you are an Arahant and some one with a strong self-view asks a question like that.
There are many Sutta Buddhas who refer to themselves as I me and mine.
However, they use it without self-view.

Re: The relationship between kamma and sankharas
Operation of Kamma is a very complex subject. There are many kinds of Kamma. Perhaps your example will qualify for the weighty of Kamma. There are Niyama Dhamma and Paccaya Dhamma too. You may be right but we can't know it for sure. Is there any part in the Pali Canon that discusses the aspect of k...

Re: Jhana and the factors of awakening
Different strokes for different folks. Jhana was a word used for various attainments... the Buddha redefined it by outlining how his jhana is attained. Alternatively, it's an outlier. I can only think of one other Instance in the suttas that tangentially suggests that the jhanas were widely practic...

Re: Jhana and the factors of awakening
That's a pretty strange opinion. I see no support in the suttas for any of those opinions. Not even the idea that the Jhana the Buddha Taught already existed. DN 1 Different strokes for different folks. Jhana was a word used for various attainments... the Buddha redefined it by outlining how his jh...

Re: Jhana and the factors of awakening
In my opinion Jhana factors (jhananga) are not directly linked to the seven factors or enlightenment (Bojjanga). They are completely different paths. Pithy, Sukha in Jhana is not the same as the Pthi and Passddhi in seven factors of enlightenment. Jhana is a pre Buddhist idea. However Jhana help you...
