Patipada

I have had this book for a long time called Patipada or The Mode of Practice of Venerable Acharn Mun . I recently started to read it. It seems to be really...intense I guess. I am really interested in some more background information. I guess I will know more when I start to really read the rest of ...

Re: Buddhist Books

I have heard about this kind of thing, but I have never heard of it being printed on the back of a book. I would have a hard time burning a book out of reverence by myself. I would probably just donate it to a local Dhamma Center or see if one of my friends wanted it. I suppose that is the point of ...

Re: hi everybody

Buckwheat, The Zen Center close to where I live is one of the few places I have to meditate with a Sangha. Unfortunately, there is no Theravada temple within a reasonable driving distance. Also, a good part of my reading has always been from Zen authors (Thich Nhat Hanh, Shunryu Suzuki, etc.) In fac...

Re: heartbeat

Thank you all for the advice, tips, and so forth. Throughout the day today I would stop myself and ask, "What if I were sitting in meditation right now? Would my heart beat so powerfully?" This sort of seemed to draw me back to mindfulness of the body and awareness of my heartbeat. When I did sit fo...

heartbeat

Lately, when I sit for meditation, my heart starts to beat really hard. It is like it is pounding. Sometimes it seems like it moves my body. What is this? Has anybody else had this problem? Does anyone have any tips to solve it? I try focusing on my breath and taking the heartbeat as my focus. It se...

Re: hello everybody + question

santa100,

thanks as well for that. I have often wondered just how habits arise and how they are identified as either mistakes or conditioned behaviour.

Re: Dhamma Books in ePub and mobi Formats

These are all so great. Thank you all very much for posting these links to books. I got an ereader recently and I have been adding files to it. Some of the larger collections are really appreciated (Collected Writings of Ajahn Chah for instance as well as the Sutta Pitaka).

Re: hello everybody + question

thank you Zom for that. I have been reflecting lately on just how much time I may be wasting thinking about stuff like this and I have been considering that meditation is certainly a better use of energy.

I got this book online because of its recommendation here. And put it on my Nook (like a Kindle). I have been reading it and I can say that I would also recommend it. Thank you very much for suggesting it, all.

I made a slight mistake. I thought that I was posting this topic in the "Discovering Theravada" forum.

sorry if this is not the place for it.

hello everybody + question

I am new here. I just posted my introduction in that respective topic. I also wanted to drop a note here to the creators of the introductory resources topic. Those are some really great links and resources. Thanks very much. And I have a question: What do the suttas say about mistakes? Also, does an...

hi everybody

I am pung S. I got the name from a friend of mine trying to say "punk" when he had a cold. I just sort of stole it as a screen name here. I used to be something of a regular at a few other forums and stuff. I am interested in monasticism and Theravada. I used to tell people that my Buddhist practice...
