Re: There is no difference between reading a book at a library and downloading it online

It’s their property. No one has a right to someone else’s property, despite the claims of the socialists and commies. It's not. If I write a novel and copyright it that is my property. No different from bioscience & pharmaceutical companies and their technology & drugs. According to our soc...

Re: Balangoda Ananda Maitreya Thero

I just discovered this wonderful teacher. I'm looking for English translations of his books or dhamma talks. I wasn't able to find anything after briefly searching around (except for his Pali text and audio of a talk in English on Metta). Anyone know of anything else that has been translated? I fou...

Re: Ajahn Sona - 32 years a monk

I saw him in person, back in 2014 (as I recall). Kamloops, British Columbia. He had just spent a Winter in complete isolation. This was his first public talk since that time. I had travelled hours to be there. The man was happy, chirp full, - it may have been my imagination - however it was as if a...

Re: What to do?

Is it better for a man who has chosen to remain a layperson yet celibate to own their own home or to move in with their parents, help to look after them in old age and give any extra cash that might have gone on living alone (bills etc) to charity/monasteries? I’m basically asking regarding myself....

Re: Did Ajahn Chah teach eternal citta or otherwise eternalism?

The quotes from Ajahn Gavesako are helpful, but it's still kind of vague. Ajahn Chah clearly said "no-self" however, he answers in the affirmative about a "primal self" and a "knower." So what's the verdict? Do you guys think he did teach a subtle-self? A primal self, ...

Re: Ajahn Brahmavamso's Dark Jhana

This dark jhana is new news for you. Bhante I imagine "dark jhana" is new news to everyone. Has this term been used by anyone other than yourself? To say Ajahn Brahmavamso teaches "dark jhana" is incorrect, in my opinion. To me the term "dark jhana" has negative connot...

Re: Ajahn Brahmavamso's Dark Jhana

The issue is not if it is nimitta or not nimitta or jhana or not jhana. The issue is Ajahn Brahm says the nimitta is bright light yet he defines jhana as being without perception of light. aka darkness. only piti sukha He said, "The nimitta is the doorway to jhana but not the object itself, pi...

Bhante,
The nimitta is not touch based. Not reliant on physical contact obviously. Just as a nimitta that is perceived as light is not dependant on the eye.

Re: Heratic teaching of Ajahn Sumedho?

I understand it, but they all believe that Nibbana is an existing reallity. You know what all Dhammayut monks believe? Ajahn Thanissaro is one monk. I don't know all, but I found some other few famous Dhammayutta Buddhist monks, they all seem to believe the same. Have you spoken to any and asked th...
