Re: How to deny Atman - Help defending Buddhadhamma
Its the "duty" of all Buddhists to fight against the "heretics" or "demonic teachings". Im still in debate with a Hindu (follower of non-dualism school) and he keeps asserting that there is Atman/Brahman I will use the substance argument against him, its the ea...

Re: Tathāgatagarbha & Buddha-dhatu
Hi all, I was confused to find that the concept of buddha-dhatu (buddha nature) is only recognized in Mahayana buddhism (according to Wikipedia, which is ever-so-reliable  ) ... but that the word Tathāgatagarbha can be interchangeable. Is this correct? Would the idea of the "womb of ...

Re: Do the heaven/hell realms hurt credibility of the dhamma?
There's a lot of research being done on the existence of parallel dimensions and universes. If one of these dimensions proves to be a heaven or hell, I highly doubt they'd have a problem with presenting that information to the world. Only theoretical research, no experimental research for theory on...

Re: Do the heaven/hell realms hurt credibility of the dhamma?
There is evidence for people. There is no evidence for external heaven and hell realms that people can be reborn into. It would be easier for me to believe in aliens than it would be for me to believe in a heaven or hell. How are aliens separated from the notion of heaven and hells? Gods in Buddhis...

Re: Do the heaven/hell realms hurt credibility of the dhamma?
I can believe that there are people who understand life better than I do, but when it comes to explaining the physical world, science has the authority. There is some science to support the idea of parallel dimensions and universes, but there is no evidence, or even a solid reason, to support the i...

Re: Do the heaven/hell realms hurt credibility of the dhamma?
Can a Buddhist ignore the heaven / hell realms, and focus only on the rational teachings? Heaven and Hell realms are rational teachings in the sense that they correspond to a state of mind of sentinel beings at the time of death. And more importantly, the most fundamental part of our mindstreams ar...

No, not at all. As with rebirth, you like to interpret stuffs too much and wrongly.clw_uk wrote:Heavenstorm, you seem to be developing aversion towards me, i would advise against this for your own benefit

Re: The Danger of Rebirth
Im discussing relevant points, would you prefer it if i just accepted something blindly without investigating so i can know for myself? and just because a lot of people oppose a view or understanding doesnt make it wrong Relevant to you perhaps, our responses are just enough to let you know that yo...

Re: Is this Mahayana virtue dedication in line with Theravada?
Read the metta sutta, guys, you will be surprised at the familiarity at some of the methods/practices that it strongly recommends. No doubt, there is a high chance that the dedication from Mahayana practices shares a similar source somewhere in the past. And metta is one of the ten perfections for t...

Re: The Danger of Rebirth
I have listened but I have not seen any evidence of your understanding of emptiness on a meaningful level....... As many others in this thread already said for several times, you have not...........(been listening) i offered you the chance to express it since you seem to disagree with my understand...

Re: The Danger of Rebirth
How do you know they didnt? I already mentioned it in my previous post you quoted and you would have noticed it if you read it as a whole rather than separating them into portions. Perhaps if you put forward your understanding of emptiness and rebirth? Already did, no point in repeating the same ol...

Re: The Danger of Rebirth
Most Buddhists i have come accross, particularly in forums, take rebirth as central and wont hear about emptiness to any meaningful degree, i have stated that not all buddhists do this. To me when one understands emptiness one sees there is no rebirth, which is in agreement with what Buddhadasa tau...

Re: The Danger of Rebirth
Since you seem to defend rebirth as central, as supermundane then you should be able to answer these questions Nah, you continue to misrepresent me. I said that rebirth is part of the first noble truth which contains both the mundane and supramundane aspects. Why is rebirth called right view with T...

Re: The Danger of Rebirth
Please read my posts fully, i offer you that same respect, i have stated the buddha taught rebirth just not the kind you find in the abhidhamma. Do you speak for everyone? No but I speak for many people who believe that Abhidharma is the work of the Buddha. And I don’t agree with you that Buddha ta...
