Re: Wat Dhammakaya
I did not single out one side or the other. Both Dhammakāya followers and there critics were guilty of speech that is unsuitable for a Buddhist. As my mum used to say: "It is six of one and half-a-dozen of the other." I see no profit in this thread, or those like it. Views are too polaris...

Re: Wat Dhammakaya
Anyway, perhaps it might be unfair to say that for the entire thread. The first few posts were OK, it just started with a genuine inquiry about a temple regarding which the OP had mixed feelings. However, by the end of the first page it had already descended into a slagging off thread. More than en...

From Dhammakaya Uncovered: http://www.dhammakayauncovered.com/facts/2016/7/5/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-dhammakaya-scandal-a-short-fact-sheet Some extracts from the article: DID THE ABBOT RECEIVE STOLEN MONEY? No, he did not. Obviously, to have received stolen money, the money in question...

Re: Buddhism and Christianity at Abhayagiri
Finally I realised that the basic differences of religions are nothing as they all agree on love and loving kindness and giving alms to the poor helping people who suffer . This is akin to saying, Buddhist and Christian monks have no real differences because they all wear robes. I am not denying th...

Re: Monk gets to the root of Thai problems
The Buddha championed the poor and he gave a chance to both the poor and the rich. That's not the impression you get when reading the suttas. He praises householders who accumulate wealth skilfully and then share it with others. he warns against practices that lead to poverty. I only read part of t...

Re: Vijja Dhammakai - Luang Por Sodh
Is there any document matching the Suttas with this practices? Hi Dhammarelax Check out this list of scriptural references that mention dhamma-kaya in Canon & commentaries: http://dhammacenter.org/meditation/dhammakaya-meditation/ As with all Theravada schools in SEA, they take the Satipatthana...

Vijja Dhammakai - Luang Por Sodh
I'd like to use this post to share some academic information about tradition of dhammakaya meditation that I've found online over a few months. It turns out that it goes all the way back to re-reform era Buddhism in Thailand. Reading all the crazy posts about Wat Phra Dhammakaya, I needed to find ou...

Re: Pūjā = Worship?
I agree that the English term worship is too closely linked to Christian theology to be an accurate reflection of what Buddhists and Hindu's do when they recite suttas, garland statues, and place offerings etc. We don't puja, we do puja to the Triple Gem. However, I don't think we can have a concise...

Re: How did you come to Buddhism? (poll)
My journey to Buddhism Largely raised by my Muslim grandparents, I never felt much of a connection to theism in general. Having bible study in public school and then attending madrassa in the later afternoons just raised more questions. I was never deeply invested in any form of theism. I went throu...

Re: Taking Refuges
Dear Friends Although I lead a life quite dedicated to Buddhist practice I dont take the refuges because I think they are not making much sense just as a theoretical thing, in the Suttas it seems that students take the refuges after they have had an understanding or attainment are there instances i...

Thailand's Bhikkhunis
Short but insightful documentary. It doesn't cover the complex issues involved, but is still worth the time.
