Re: Drama Wheel
I actually find strong debate very useful actually since I can instantly discern from both sides what the issues are, what the weaknesses in arguments are, etc. That's why I thought eSangha was a great learning tool for me, even though it was intense.

Re: U.N. Declares Famine in Somalia
The difficulty in Somalia right now is that a lot of the famine area is under the control of hard-line Islamic insurgent group, al-Shabab which is preventing relief organizations from getting in.

Drama Wheel
I miss the old Therevada vs Vajrayana fights from the old forums. Could we create a third forum "Drama Wheel" where we can all get together and bash each other again? M'kay thanks.

Touchy, touchy.
I wonder if the Blessed One himself was this touchy.

Re: Do you also read Mahayana Sutras?
For what it's worth the only way to practice a vehicle or tradition is to accept it as it is. Modern ecumenism boils everything down into a soup which doesn't taste very good. I learn from other schools and religions only when there is an authentic ancient tradition speaking in its own genuine voice...

Re: Do you also read Mahayana Sutras?
Eventually anyone who meditates just to become an Arhat for themselves, is going to come to the finish line and go "this is it? I'm done, but what about all these other people, do I really care about them too?" . The Mahayana texts give the gift of bringing more life to your meditation (w...

Re: "Luminous mind" was Question Regarding God and Agnosticism?
How can Buddhists say on one hand 'there is no path' and on the other 'this is the only path'. It's ridiculous. The same way that someone can say on the one hand we are all "going nowhere" and on the other that "all paths ascend the same mountain". If this trick were as easy to ...

Re: "Luminous mind" was Question Regarding God and Agnosticism?
Yes it does go nowhere. That's the whole point. If that was the point enlightenment would be very easy, no? "Going nowhere" and "going somewhere" are equally empty. In which case, as our Theravadin friends are pointing out to you, how can you say that "all paths up the moun...
