Re: Asking about non parajika expulsion

So in somehow it could be that you (we, others...) give the interpretations more value as to original. I would be really interested in the old stories (you found this reflected) to have maybe the same conclusion as you. The counted points are contradictorily and at least not logical even a source of...

Re: Why is it important to value and see our Conditions?

Well, yes. The vast majority of people are adrift in samsara. So long as we take advantage of our current conditions for our progress on the path - that is the important thing. and in so doing we inadvertently become beacons of light for those others who are seeking in the dark. Well said, well sai...

Re: Ud 4.5 Nāga Sutta — The Bull Elephant

Would you as full awakened being hit your finger with a hammer constanly or live in a mud hole? So why not change the place if this would not make sense? Surely it wouldn't make any difference to the Buddha'? Surely he has an unlimited capacity to "let go", so the discomfort of the mud an...

Re: Why is it important to value and see our Conditions?

I would say in the east as well. Even there is still a faith believe in making merits, people do not understand what it means to make merits and mistake it in a simply worldly way. Of coures there is much worldly success out of it in the east, what we can see by our self. They transfomed this tradit...

Why is it important to value and see our Conditions?

Many “modern” teacher are used to tell people that there is something like a Buddha-nature a inherent goodness or possibility to gain awakening. This is somehow a very nice message which gives a lot of hope, but the problem of hope is that we easily rest on it. As long as there is something to hope,...

Re: Why consciousness is impermanent?

Dear Equilibrium, I had such an foreboding but thought to put it on submit anyway. The limit of every topic is awakening (even a little) and if it leads to this or is in the right direction there is no limiting of the OP. another wasted opportunity Depends always on the own concentration. I guess it...

Re: Asking about non parajika expulsion

I guess it would be more kindergarden to bring it on such a level and do not simply stay on the topic. So where is the realtion of your statement without putting some personal things into it? I would not take it on blind faith, even if one would say he has study the Vinaya and at least there are num...

Re: Asking about non parajika expulsion

I am sure that the Vinaya (or better what the Buddha meant) is quite clear, but I am not sure if we get the message in the right way. Texts seems to be often so straight and takeable, but if we start to reflect a little more about it or even compare them with personal situations, some interpretation...

Re: Asking about non parajika expulsion

Thanks you Cittasanto for your quatations, I would like to ask one question to one who knows the response a person who poses as a bhikkhu without having been ordained, what is condition that makes one go under this statement? If it's a living like a bikkhu, a living a simple life, and/or train your...

Re: Asking about non parajika expulsion

I just remembered a novice can be expelled for ten reasons "I allow a novice endowed with ten qualities to be expelled: He is a taker of life, he is a taker of what is not given, he engages in unchastity, he is a speaker of lies, he is a drinker of intoxicants, he speaks dispraise of the Buddh...

Re: Why consciousness is impermanent?

Why do you refuse that consciousness is a part of living beings? Do I? Maybe I expressed something not so well. It was meant in regard of "we all "know" it" in this sentence. "Consciousness applies to every one of us, we all "know" it. ....it is part of a human be...

Re: Right Livelihood, business in meat

Do you know Pferdeleberkäse (German Pferd = horse), which is indeed made of horse meat, otherwise not widely consumed in the German language area. Popular in Vienna, Austria. Actually very tasty. Horse meat was long time a "poor mans food" as it was not taken by others as regard as taboo. ...

Re: Right Livelihood, business in meat

I don't think so, I am just able to abstain to use them as much as possible especial if it is simply for pleasure. Did I change you? If not, I wasted again some unnessesary energy. So I better think about it that it was not wasted. Do I use you when I use you to learn? But I guess I ...

Re: Ud 4.5 Nāga Sutta — The Bull Elephant

Would you as full awakened being hit your finger with a hammer constanly or live in a mud hole? So why not change the place if this would not make sense? There is a kind of similar message in the Yasa Sutta: Honor but there are also suttas where the Buddha thought to return (mostly after request) ou...

Re: Right Livelihood, business in meat

I don't know, it probably depends on the circumstances and outcome. Like, when you sell a foal to have it living with people who want to sit on it's back, for sports, it would not be so problematic. (Obviously inspired by Ben's foal.... ) So to sell them as a fun object will be OK? I watche...
