Re: Informations about Ajahn Kevali

I spent just over three weeks there, and he seemed to me to be a competent and kind ajahn, but uninspiring. Good enough, I guess. Sorry, that sounds like Damning With Faint Praise. Several of the monks at Nanachat said he was reluctant to ordain people, and indeed, very few ordinations have happened...

Re: Meditation apnea, asphyxia and ecstasy

Google the Choking Game. The wiki is bad at explaining it though, find a different page.
Also similar mechanism to Autoerotic Asphyxiation.

Don't be tempted to play around with it, a good friend of mine died that way.
At the funeral they said Suicide, but everyone who knew him well knew otherwise.

Re: What do you want to do when you're dead?

Thanks, I've not read the TOS recently so I wasn't sure.
They have a brush in the room, so you can sweep the floor clean of corpse-dust before you sit to meditate.

Re: What do you want to do when you're dead?

Ooh that picture turned out big and could perhaps shock small conservative sheltered children or those who prefer to avoid the reality of death...
Should I not have attached it?
Apologies.

Re: What do you want to do when you're dead?

I'd like to donate my body to a monastery, where they'd watch it decay, like this woman at the monastery I'm staying at now, Tham Yai Prik, on Ko Sichang.
They built a perspex box and a special building so it didn't stink the place out so bad.
It's pretty horrible, sobering. Still smelly.

Re: Tattoo

Sorry to restart this old thread, but a few weeks ago I saw a Thai monk at Wat Pah Nanachat who had a big full-colour buddha on his bicep. Everyone was fine with it, all good.

Consider broadening your practise to include tools and techniques which might be helpful in this case.

Re: SN Goenka ?

I know by example that in Thaï Forest Monasteries you practice anapana only No way, you practice however you want, using whatever technique works for you. A lot of Thai Forest monks do use anapana but the other popular "methods" I have heard a lot of monks talk about themselves using, are...

Re: Diet on Solitary Retreat

Add a packet of psyllium or bran fibre, to avoid constipation. The food ordering-online thing sounds good as suggested above. In my area the supermarket chain only charges $10 for delivery, even out on the farm, as they save so much money on shop space, rental, etc. Solo retreat sounds great, may yo...

Re: Disrobe or ... ?

My advice on this matter is to stop wasting your time thinking about it. As hypothetical questions go, this one is up there with the most abstruse and wildly unlikely. A clingy spiritual ex in spirit form is NOT going to contact you to complain when you are an awesome meditation master. That's prett...

Re: Mailing Wat Pah Nanachat

You can just show up you don't need to mail them. When I went there I just showed up and so did the other visitors. I understand they're getting tired of spiritual backpackers Just Showing Up. They specifically request overseas visitors, and those intending to stay for a longer time, to write to th...

This article, first posted by Cooran in another thread, is a really good read for those interested in the State/Sangha organisation.

Re: bavangha

No It is not bangha. She exprienced nothing for a while. As if a piece of time just had not existed. Interesting, I had that too, and the teacher said something like "bhavanga", which meant nothing to me. I sat down to meditate, focussed on the breath and then immediately I heard the bell...
