Re: About romantic relationships

There are many wonderful Buddhist practitioners and teachers engaged in romantic relationships. I think this is because there is often much more clinging and aversion in avoiding romantic relationships than there is in maintaining them. Relationships can also provide a lot of opportunities for prac...

Re: Tibetan "Buddhism" speaking of Theravada

I think this has a precedent in the Buddhavamsa, on which I've actually just created a thread (that I wouldn't mind seeing merged with this one, since the topics are essentially the same). The Buddhavamsa lists one of the conditions of becoming a samma-sambuddha as being a man and not a woman or in...

Re: Lifespan of beings in the hell realm

You really don't know what you're talking about. Dear Ben, I accept your criticism. I'm not a scholarly person, but I have faith in the Sutta that hell is physical realm where beings can take rebirth. As mentioned previously, the Sutta leaves no room for interpretation, or even debate. If the Buddh...

You're citing a Wikipedia article on the four noble truths on a Theravāda forum? Are you serious??

My arachnophobia became manageable when I took an interest in spiders and began learning about them.
The risk of being hurt and/or killed by a spider is, in most places, fairly remote.

Re: Pictures that prove Australia is the Craziest

Thanks Kim! My secret weekness for the spotted tail quoll is revealed! Not really secret, Ben - you seemed pretty happy about the photo you posted here a few weeks ago  so I figured you might like the baby. I was lucky enough to see one a few nights back. One of my guests turned to me and sa...

Re: Lifespan of beings in the hell realm

Those were just speculations made by Gombrich and Gethin. How are these speculations relevant to the practice of Dhamma? One can say they're just a waste of time. Richard Gombrich is an Indologist and scholar of Sanskrit, Pāli, and Buddhist Studies. He was the Boden Professor of Sanskrit at the Uni...

Thanks Kim! My secret weekness for the spotted tail quoll is revealed! I was lucky enough to see one a few nights back. One of my guests turned to me and said after that fleeting glimpse that seeing one in the wild was on his 'bucket list'. The next day I took the same gentleman on a walk around one...

Yes SarathW, he is not Buddhist. Nothing beats this *Buddhist* t-shirt, in my humble opinion. Subtle, understated, classic. Lol, definately my favourite! Its also worth checking through the "Fake Buddha Quotes" website: http://fakebuddhaquotes.com/ . THanks Aloka My facebook timeline is getting spammed by *I love Buddhism* which a...
