Re: Does been a vegetarian mean gods are with you?

Perhaps you can look at it in a more generalized way. Feelings like "the gods are with you" probably stem from the good kamma you develop by not eating animals that have been killed. Soon. The idea that there is good kamma from being vegetarian is wrong view - and wrong view is akusala. H...

Re: What do the wider Theravadan world think about Goenka?

I've just recently completed a 10-day Vipassana retreat in Goenka's tradition. It was my third, although it had been a number of years since I last did one of these. I quite like the technique and teachings Goenka offers, but he doesn't give much credit to the wider body of Buddhist thought and pra...

Re: "Anicca" as "uncertainty" - Ajahn Chah via Ajahn Amaro

With all due respect, it doesn't seem like the "yeah well I don't think so" argument contributes much to the conversation. My point was that IMPERMANENCE is something I can easily handle in meditation...but being able to quickly call it to mind in all manner of daily interactions can take...

Re: What do the wider Theravadan world think about Goenka?

I suggest you do some research on SN Goenka particularly, the esteem in which he held the Bhikkhu Sangha. Also, it might be worthwhile searching for, and reading, the obituaries to him. That should give you an indication of the respect he held for the tradition and the respect that the wider Therava...

Welcome Dhammacola!
Yes, you can take refuge here.
Chill, read, learn and discuss.
Thank you for sharing your traumatic experience and I hope the negative effects of being held up at gunpoint diminish.
kind regards,

Really? there's nothing lofty or esoteric about it, it's something that is easily observable, like gravity.
You took the words right out of my mouth.

Re: "Moderation in what is beneficial"? - Yoga connections.

Yet again, more irrational nonsense. Knowledge brings mastery. If Western medicine was aware of all the components in semen surely they would have made use of them or exploited them rather. What about this is irrational if I may ask? You've demonstrated a complete lack of knowledge of the subject a...

Re: "Moderation in what is beneficial"? - Yoga connections.

You made the claim Well if they knew every single component of semen surely we'd have clones and test tube babies running rampant which is not the case. Yet again, more irrational nonsense. I'm sorry but this is irrational nonsense. I'm sorry you feel that way. Its not a feeling. Its a statement of...

and it isn't only zinc as I said there are numerous compounds present in semen of which modern medicine is completely in the dark! Such as hormones enzymes etc. Really? Please do tell. Re: Fear of becoming a boring person

Many years ago I had a friend who decided to get a sex change. When I probed him as to why the answer he gave me was that he wanted to be 'an interesting person'. Now, I don't have a thing against LGBTI, but I didn't think his motivation was healthy nor appropriate. And I let him know as gently as p...
