Re: Venerating the Dhamma as the Impersonal Divine Cosmic Order symbolized by the Thousand Spoked Wheel symbol
That's interesting. Is there sutta or commentarial support for that idea? I’ll have to respond more fully later in the week. Sujato though has discussed this here: https://discourse.suttacentral.net/t/on-sakkaya-identity-and-substantial-reality/31048?page=4 I will quickly say that in order to take ...

Re: Venerating the Dhamma as the Impersonal Divine Cosmic Order symbolized by the Thousand Spoked Wheel symbol
Sakkāya Diṭṭhi: Sat (truly existing, real) kāya (body) diṭṭhi (view). Kāya here not referring to the physical body, but more what the likes of Pakudha Kaccāyana et al. had in mind, i.e. substances "'...[T]here are these seven substances (kāya) — unmade, irreducible, uncreated, without a creato...

Re: Indra’s Pillar
Originally there was probably a religious significance, relating to the Vedic god. But the term is used in a positive sense elsewhere, not just as some kind of obstacle to be uprooted or overthrown. In Dhp's Arahantavagga, for example, we have: Undisturbed like the earth, Pathavisamo no virujjhati, ...

Re: masturbation what's wrong?
SN 42.2 doesn't mention women dressing in any way whatsoever. It's about an actor. Same idea, to inspire lust is karmic If the inspiring of lust is intentional then it is kamma . But that's very different from the claim that they are necessarily destined for purgatory. They might be, but that would...

Re: masturbation what's wrong?
Masturbration means lust mind is present.. lust leads to lower realm.. So just a vague idea, then. Is there a sutta dealing with masturbation and its link to animal realms? I can't recall one... Women who dress partially and show their body to gain attention is inducing sensual pleasure in others.....

Re: breath concentration
I have some problem when doing vipassana, which I can't even tell if it's shared by more practitioners or is just a result of my compulsions. Namely, it is a problem with deciding where to feel the breath and sticking to it. I'm just starting to meditate again (or should say: trying to start) after...

Re: masturbation what's wrong?
I am talking about mind not physical body… You were talking about western women "not covering their body properly". And you still have provided no evidence that masturbation leads to shamelessness and animal existence. It might, as I acknowledged, be true. But it would be good to see some...

Re: "If we owned our body, it would obey our every command"
Hello, I keep running into this statement in Ajahn Chah's teachings. I don't understand the logic. To me this sounds like a logical fallacy, because it doesn't matter what kind of thing you own, it just does not follow that said thing will 'obey your commands', especially if it's not even a being o...

Re: Reflections on aging
That's interesting, thanks. :anjali: As Bette Davis may have said, old age is no place for sissies. I have found the mental and physical problems experienced by the ageing Ajahn Chah to be interesting - they are detailed in Ajahn Jayasaro's biography Stillness Flowing . And this 15 minute video of p...

Dear Sam, Here is the remaining notes from the verse. I already copied the first note. The verse: *The man who is not crdeulous** who understands the Uncreate ***(Nibbana) who has cut off the links **** who has put an end to occasion ***** (of good and evil), who has eschewed *******all desires ***...
