But just like the "whole" doesn't exist as noumenon, same with concepts.

Awareness is an English word. Perhaps you could explain a bit more about what you mean by awareness and then someone can tell you whether there's a corresponding Pali term, and what it is, and how it's used.

Re: Samatha v. vipassana?

Greetings Alex, The idea of "transport" is sanna. Sanna existed in the past and it exists in the present (if there are required conditions for it). Right, so why are some people willing to accept the (anicca, anatta, dukkha compliant) existence of sanna, yet turn around and deny the existe...

Re: The same in Theravada?

Greetings Hunter, In Theravada, consciousness is always "consciousness of something". It is not a "thing" called consciousness which sits there glowing away. There is eye-consciousness, ear-consciousness, tongue-consciousness, nose-consciousness, body-consciousness, mind-consciou...

Re: Samatha v. vipassana?

Greetings, Concepts, like atta, do not exist. It is just a conglomeration of thoughts that DO exist and are anicca, dukkha and anatta. To that extent, they're just like any other thought or idea, that arises and passes away. As such, I don't know why 'concepts' get singled out as any different. I su...

Re: Samatha v. vipassana?

Greetings, Now, to be clear, there is a difference between concepts and the process of the arising and passing away of concepts (which is something that one very much needs to be aware of). Yes, this is a very good point... and a key distinction that needs to be made in terms of this discussion. As ...

It's hard to say for sure with poetic / graphic descriptions.

Just read suttas on the topic and read what various monks and teachers within the Theravada tradition say about it and you should be fine.

Re: Thumbs up button

Greetings, If the quality of the Dhamma was determined by popular vote, then this may have some practical use. However, since realistically it's not, this functionality is only likely to create tension and turn the art of posting into a popularity contest. That said, I don't know how we could do it ...

Re: Samatha v. vipassana?

Greetings pt1, Hm, there's a possibility we in fact think alike(!) - work with me here - since I think that concepts are simply not an aspect of conditioned existence (being illusory and all), then it makes no difference to me whether you think concepts are included or not (I mean, it's irrelevant w...
