I want to become a monk eventually, however in the tradition I want to ordain in you need to be an Anagarika for at least a year to become a Samaner...

Re: Are relics unique only to Buddhism?

I have read the Mahaparinibbana Sutta, but don't recall any mention of Sarira being left by the Buddha. His bones were left and divided up, but no kidney stones or pearls etc. Also, you must have heard stories about monks throwing stuff into the funeral pyre and coffin before burning the body of the...

Teams in various countries are already training. Rumours have it the Chinese are...

Are there any well known cases of an arahant, or person people think are an arahant, who dedicated themselves to social action after their enlightenment? For instance, feeding the poor, establish a hospital, or other services to the needy? Hi contemplans, Venerable Maha Boowa: http://thaihelp.tripo...

Re: Errors in the ordination ceremony

Greetings bhante, The Buddha said 'Ehi Pasiko'...'come and see'...what's happening today is rite and ritual...some might say it's a lot of wasted effort and energy mulling over these things...a certain number of stones has to be laid out just right, or one is not a monk...please... Yes, it's kinda ...

Re: Ven. Ananda Bodhi/Karma tenzin Dorje Namgyal

I beleive Lama Govinda was a Theravada monk initially too - in Ceylon.

Also Robert Buswell started off as a Theravada monk in Thailand before changing to Korean Zen (then later disrobing and becoming an academic)
