Re: Bowing to lay teachers

I would like to quote Godwin samararatne, a well known meditation teacher.
'Dont call me teacher, consider me a peer who is also learning the dhamma
together with you'

Re: Can a monk who disrobe reordain?

Thanks for the all the comments.
What is the rationale for this rule?
Is it purely to discourage monks from breaking the rules?

Re: Can a monk who disrobe reordain?

What if the monk goes to another country or another tradition?
Why cant the monk be forgiven if he has repented?

wise and vice versa'?

Can a monk who disrobe reordain?

When a monk has broken major rules, he is forced to disrobe.
Can he become a monk again?

Recently, I read this 'According to the Buddha, until and unless we are enlightened, we are all crazy. So we are living in a crazy world.'
Any comments?

If you dont mind travelling to Asia, I can recommend a
meditation centre. It is run by a burmese monk who was
a doctor. he speaks english.
You dont have to be a monk to live at the centre, but you
do have to keep 8 precepts.

cheers.

Re: The middle way between accepting or fighting illness

I used to have the same problems.
Obviously, your lifestyle is not working for you.
I solved my problem by completely changing my lifestyle.
I quit my job and work form home, flexible hours.

You need to change your life.
Long term insomnia is not good for you.

Re: Goenka retreat- aversion towards Chanting

The recordings played at the retreat are not proper chanting.
Its a lot of mumbling and moaning by Goenka,
I found it very disturbing.
Does anyone have the recording?
We should ask a knowledgeable monk what the content is.

Re: Is Hinayana a derogatory term?

I think its good to err on the side of caution.
So I will not use that term again.

Theravada seems clear enough.
Unless there are other objections to "Theravada" as well.
