Re: should I marry or be single?
I wonder how many people who become Buddhist or are attracted to Buddhism do so because they feel they've been rejected when it comes to the social aspect of life and find solace in the solitary aspect of Buddhist practice. I think the risk there is you're ignoring the underlying issues that lead to...

Restaurants and Bars
I work for a company that makes software for restaurants but it’s also used by bars (probably that serve food). Is this bad? I’m directly involved with making the software. It’s also used in places that don’t serve alcohol like cafes.

Using Buddha's name commercially
If a restaurant had a dish that you liked, but it had the Buddha's name in it would you order it? Or would you be offended that the Buddha's name is being used to commercialize food and not order?

Re: What about drinking Kombucha?
I asked the same question here.

I make my own kombucha and I've never felt drunk from drinking it. I don't think it has the intoxicating effect of say beer or wine, so that's why I keep drinking it.

Re: How being a Theravada buddhist monk is not nihilistic and life-denying?
sexual activity, intoxicating drinks and drugs, dancing, singing, music, going to see entertainments, wearing garlands, using perfumes, and beautifying the body with cosmetics, lying on a high or luxurious sleeping place, accepting gold and silver (money). If this is not life-denying, then what is ...

Re: Selling the dhamma for profit... Meditation apps
Is Calm really a Buddhist app? Buddhism doesn’t own meditation, so it’s not like it’s a practice exclusive to Buddhism.

Re: How do people know about rebirth?
How do you explain all the suttas that refer to rebirth? Are they all doctored? The Buddha said none of it?

I'd look into Dr. Ian Stevenson's research into rebirth. It's pretty interesting.

Re: How do people know about rebirth?
Thanks for your answer! I understand your point, but I disagree with it. Even without any metaphysical contrivance, the Dhamma makes sense to me. The ending of suffering is enough reason to follow the path, at least for me. That being said, I'm not saying that everything beside that goal should be ...

Re: How do people know about rebirth?
I feel like the whole path doesn’t make sense without rebirth. If you only live once then what is there to escape really? It’s only once you have rebirth, becoming, karma...that you start to see a problem and a need to escape the cycle. With rebirth there is just a perpetual wandering in samsara, se...

Gradual Path: Linear or non-linear?
I feel like there are two camps when it comes to the gradual path of practice. I think Zom is the most vocal about the practice being linear with meditation at the end of the path and dana/sila in the beginning. However, there are also those who say it's non-linear and that you can do sila, dana, me...
Re: lice
Another variation of this question is whether you'd kill termites if your house was infested. I personally would get the house treated. I'm guessing the OP would let the termites destroy their house?

Re: How Do I Choose The ONE path When I Get So Much From Many Paths ?
Then Venerable Ānanda went up to the Buddha, bowed, and sat down to one side. The Buddha said to him: “Ānanda, are all precepts and observances, lifestyles, and spiritual paths fruitful when taken as the essence?” “This is no simple matter, sir.” “Well then, Ānanda, break it down.” “Take the case o...

I don't think I can change the direction of the game. It's already decided and it's more my friend's project that I'm helping out on.

Making a video game
Do you think making a video game is a bad idea? We all know how addictive video games can be and they're ultimately a distraction/escape. I'm currently working on making a game with a friend to refresh my programming skills, but I think the plan is to eventually sell it in the app store. I have mixe...

Wouldn't one of the reasons be to deepen one's meditation practice?
