Hi Cooran, I saw that article (in the OP) yesterday and found it very interesting so I googled for more details. It seems to come down to the amount of omega-3 (good) vs. omega-6 (not good) fat that we are taking in, and if we eat a lot of omega-6 it crowds out the omega-3, so even if you take a lo...

the great vegetarian debate

At the moment, I still enjoy some good tasting foods, but still try to keep them as healthy as possible, for example mostly vegan. I "spice" it up with curries and other seasonings, but I agree definitely sustenance should be our goal. Don't worry, spices like curry, cinammon, and ginger ...

Re: The mechanics of what we call "belief"

People's beliefs are highly integrated with their identity and ego. If someone were to challenge another's beliefs, they also challenge their authority, intelligence and competence. In order to maintain the self-perception of superiority to others, they may choose to not investigate another's propo...

Re: The mechanics of what we call "belief"

I struggle to see how belief is a choice. I believe (!) that our beliefs definitely are choices, usually made unconsciously but can be made consciously as well. People just "don't see" the contradictions to their beliefs most of the time. Sometimes it happens that one day when your mind i...

Re: Weird perceptions arising in my meditation, any comments.

We maintain a mental body image that we are constantly reinforcing all the time, from all the sensory inputs we have, mainly from the body's nervous system and visual input. This process is a big factor in reinforcing the sense of self. While meditating once we focus well enough on the object, thos...

Re: the great vegetarian debate

I don't care what anyone says. If you buy meat you share in the kamma of the farmer who raised the animal for consumption. A farmer does not keep livestock for kicks, they do not grow on speculation, they grow for demand, you stop buying they stop producing end of story. All of you are eel wrigglin...
