How many calories a day for monks?

Monks are on a OMAD (one meal a day) diet. While on this regime they sometimes perform extremely strenuous work - building monasteries, walking long distances etc. They also study. How many calories a day do they consume? From YouTube videos it does not appear that they get more than 2 cups of gluti...

Re: Is Buddhism Left or Right leaning?

Suttacentral (early buddhist text) is Theravada yet belongs to left , however , dhammawheel is right (?) also Theravada , so , what then ? That's why in my post I differentiated between where I felt the doctrine landed and where adherents are in terms of political positions. They are not necessaril...

Re: Law of atraction and kamma

Namaste i want to know your opinion about the theory of the secret or the law of attraction, it seems that the real law of attraction is kamma, but in that theory people seems to have results. In theory what they say is that if you stop thinking bad things you wont attract bad things to yourself (w...

Re: Is Buddhism Left or Right leaning?

Depends how you are defining left and right. The key defining factor of Left is egalitarianism. They may not share other characteristics but this is universal among all branches of Leftist thoughts. All men are born equal/All men are equal. In Buddhism, All men are not born equal and All men are no...

Re: Is Buddhism Left or Right leaning?

I have voted Right because it is not egalitarian (does not matter if it is non-egalitarian by yardstick of spiritual progress .. it does not consider all humans to be equal)

Here is link to Bhikkhu_Bodhi-Comprehensive_Manual_of_Abhidhamma.pdf https://www.saraniya.com/books/meditation/Bhikkhu_Bodhi-Comprehensive_Manual_of_Abhidhamma.pdf See page 25, Guide to § 2 Read it. Very surprising. I had not read a word of the Abhidhamma before and the stale argument Hinduism vs. ...

Re: Buddhism for the beginners

In short, the Buddha taught us that we live in a mist of illusion. The world around us and ourselves are not what we think we are. As a result of this confusion we are stuck in, we feel unhappy, and sometimes we become destructive. The only way to free oneself from these illusions is to see for one...

Re: who is the god of israel

Who is the god of Israel? YHWH of course. Anglicized to Jehovah. Some historians have theorized that the biblical Jews were not really that monotheistic. They believed that Jehovah was their god, the god of Israel and that other nations had their own gods, not Jehovah. As time went on and the Jews ...

Re: Is there a guarente that i a time get liberated?

Or is it my choices that decide that? I would give a little different answer. You have to take a really deep dive into your samskaras and free yourself of them one by one. Such as about three years back I commented in this forum that trans people are sick. I was rebuked adequately and then decided ...

Re: Why no metta for opposite gender?

Choosing the opposite sex or the gender one is attracted to can cause lust. For example,I noticed when I practice metta people are super nice to me.If I practiced it to the opposite sex they would also be nice to me but you can tell this can easily lapse into lust. While with the sex your not attrac...

Could those men have worn a dress shirt in 38 C heat and 82% humidity? What did the British colonialists wear when they first came to India? Honestly? And you call yourself a Buddhist after making this slick comment about the most painful part of our history? I can't persuade others to boycott you ...
