budo wrote: Wed Mar 20, 2019 3:06 pm Buddhism is constantly being hijacked by hindus, atheists, altruists, political ideologists, you name it. Nothing but greed, greed, and more greed.
Well are they to blame or is it your over attachment to "Buddhism" which is the real problem? Think it over

Re: Was the Buddha an avatar of lord vishnu?

Not to mention that the buddha said to essentially throw his dharma away once you reach the goal...forget everything he taught in the same way that you leave behind a raft used to cross a river. You wouldn't carry it around the shore and in the forest with you...it'd be an unnesecary burden to do so...

What is an Arahant?

Do any of you really know? Well I can tell you one thing we certainly aren't devoid of arahants in this world and I don't think its even possible for that to occur. An Arahant is a perfectly balanced individual. A handsome man or beautiful woman with a strong digestive fire and unshakeable confidenc...

Re: Was the Buddha an avatar of lord vishnu?

How so? The Buddha never said he wasn't an avatar of lord vishnu and he certainly didn't deny the existence of a creator god. He said if there is a god he is to blame for this mass of suffering...indeed lol but as we know the sun gives life but it also brings destruction we need an equal balance of ...

Re: New to Buddhism

It isn't hard to find information on the web and in books but do keep in mind that it will only ever be superficial knowledge if you never actually put it into practice. Be generous, stay up late, be mindful and alert, do everything you can to replace sense pleasures with something more wholesome; b...

Re: Remorse or regret as fruits of kamma

But in this sutta the Buddha seems to contradict the idea that all bodily feeling is caused by kamma quite clearly: "Produced by (disorders of the) bile, there arise, Sivaka, certain kinds of feelings. That this happens, can be known by oneself; also in the world it is accepted as true. Produc...

Re: Remorse or regret as fruits of kamma

I found an old post of mine which further elaborates upon elemental theory as it relates to the 5 hindrances. I hope I haven't scared anyone away  : All the hindrances are, are feelings which arise from the 5 elements. Anger, doubt, laziness, greed and worry are all bodily feelings that th...

Re: Sleeping pill every night

Friends, I suffer from chronic insomnia. I've been taking a sleeping pill (alphrozam+melatonin) every night, never felt better. Just 0.5mg dosage. Do I continue taking it every night? Do people have any experience with it? I need your feedback, insights, etc. Thanks. You might try seeing an Ayurved...

If I understand correctly this is the Abhidhamma position. Surely, the part of kamma can be very significant. But in this sutta the Bud...

Re: Remorse or regret as fruits of kamma

Id like to propose that while remorseful THOUGHTS may be simply the creation of new kamma rather than the fruits of past misdeeds; the unpleasant bodily feelings typically associated with remorse can in fact be a result of kamma. If one examines closely what is happening when feelings of guilt arise...

Re: The case against coffee (important)

I'd wager he would have disallowed it excepting of use as medicine. He allowed alcohol as medicine so why not coffee? He allowed fruit and vegetable juices for drinking as well as sugar dissolved in water but coffee can be actively harmful (physically and mentally) to one who eats so little already...
