Thai translation help needed
Hi all, In my last Goenka vipassana retreat, I met a young Thai samanera, who is a student of U Rewata and Ajahn Jayasaro. He was travelling in India for the goal of completing a few thousand hours of meditation, mostly in the caves of Griddhakuta mountain at Rajgir. Although he wasn't fluent in eng...

Re: Mandala
Ok thanks, I wasn't sure where to post it.
Mandala
Mandala is a 1981 South Korean film about Buddhist monks in Korea. This is considered by many critics to be director Im Kwon-taek's breakthrough film as a cinematic artist. The film follows the differing lives of two Buddhist monks in Korea. By following their lives and their interaction throughout ...
Re: Paris
Hi No_Mind, I agree to most of your points, albeit most of your points were not related directly to identifying colonialism as a 'justification' for terrorism/extremism. My friend, I think you are making the classic mistake of equating correlation with causation: it is true that colonial powers have...
Re: Paris
If France, Britain, and other European countries had resisted the imperial temptation — if they had never sent armies to places like Syria, Iraq, India, or North Africa — they would not be facing the terror that afflicts them today. Sorry, I find this statement ignorant at best and disingenuous at ...

Vipassana and disease
Here's an interesting interview of a burmese nun. I don't personally agree to her claims, but i found the interview inspiring nonetheless.

Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
What a wonderfully written piece with wit and humour interspersed with peace and stillness, and the tremendous requirements of discipline in a monk's life.
Thank you, Bhante!

Re: Shall I go for a 10-day course
Personally I would never do the free 10 day goenka retreat. I have thought about it many times and in the end I decided that its just way too austere. It even comes across as quite cultish from some of the reports I have heard. I understand that its important to have no distractions etc but there a...

Re: Back to back Goenka retreats
Thanks everyone! I had a very peaceful time up at Dhamma Sikhara, in the foothills of the Himalayas. I recommend this centre to anyone who wants to do a course in India. As for the serving, it was a rich experience, although very difficult for me! It is a great opportunity to practice metta bhavana ...

Re: Back to back Goenka retreats
Thanks to everyone for their suggestions, and apologies for my delayed reply.
Tomorrow I'm going to start a retreat (sitting) and then follow it up immediately as a server. Wish me luck!

Re: Back to back Goenka retreats
Thanks for your reply, randall. Although serving is on my to-do list, this time I am looking to sit both times. I was hoping to sit at the same centre, but if they don't allow this I might have to do it in different centres.
Thanks again,
