Re: Sheaves of reeds

Descartes is not the Buddha. Do you know the Buddha? Though I am clear on this- Thought fabrications are merely thought fabrications, not mine. "Even so, monks, whatever isn't yours: Let go of it. Your letting go of it will be for your long-term welfare & happiness. And what isn't yours? F...

What’s the I that still exists? What is asking the question? You "I think, therefore I am" Cogito ergo sum. Descartes is not the Buddha. I think, therefore I think that I am! Can the skin feel itself? Can the eye see itself? What’s the eye? When it rains, what is doing the raining? Is the...

Re: Sheaves of reeds

after the termination of life, everything that is sensed, not being relished, will grow cold right here. How do you interpret this? It’s clearly saying you still exist It’s saying what is left will be “revealed” and what was sensed was never meant to go on and on and on. There’s nothing further for...

So the Buddha never experienced any vedana? How then do you explain the occasions where he said he was in pain? The problem is actually stress, not pain Absence of stress is the goal A mental state… "Form, monks, is not self. If form were the self, this form would not lend itself to dis-ease. ...

Let us consider one point at a time, and proceed from there, after it is clarified. This is a public forum. Let us be kind to them, and speak more clearly, and mean what we say. When I wrote Houses, trees, people, etc exist physically, they are not images. pegembara wrote Yes, they are. "Real&...

Re: Dangers of attachment

I like the idea behind the mindfulness bell used in Plum Village. If you are not able to stop what you are doing, you need to ask yourself whether attachment is present or not. Mindfulness bells in Plum Village The first time you experience it can be a bit awkward: you carry on speaking, not realisi...

Can a mind filled with craving bring what Is desired "A woman" into physical existence? Or does it bring images of the craved woman into existence in the mind, and get us involved in papanca? Buddha was pragmatic. When Buddha asked Radha to destroy "Rupa" did he mean "find ...

Re: Why it is called Seven stations of consciousness and two spheres?

My question is why one is called consciousness and the other spheres. What is the difference between the consiousness and the sphere? Terminology is somewhat incorrect. They are not named as "ayatanas" in this canonical list. They are called "abodes of beings" (sattavasa). And w...

The nine -4 jhanas, 4 arupas and cessation of perception and feeling. Sounds like meditative states in parts, no? When the mind relinquishes the 5 sense pleasures and withdraws, then consciousness lands or stations at progressively finer states of being. Anupada Sutta https://www.accesstoinsight.org...
