Re: Loss of libibdo

‘Good, Gotama, wait! Other than bhikkhus, bhikkhunis and lay disciples of Gotama, who wear white clothes and lead the holy life. Is there a single lay disciple, who wears white clothes, leads the holy life, while partaking sensual pleasures, and doing the work in the dispensation has dispelled doub...

Re: What's wrong with living a "normal" life?

Nothing, and dont let the naysayers lead you to believe you must renounce these things. The Buddha praised this lifestyle for his lay followers. Re: Impermanency of Matter

Maybe some of you people should study some physics.....then you would understand that the impermanence of matter is pretty much a scientific fact as well as a Buddhist teaching. Alot of people have no qualms about talking about how their experiences prove this or that etc......so why can't some of u...

Re: Loss of libibdo

Alex123, Thanks for the reply and the links. The first one seems to address the desire issue to monks specifically....and I suppose that it is good advise to some laypeople but I don't think that generally speaking the Buddha taught these things to lay people....it seems he had different advise for ...

Re: Loss of libibdo

I think you are dodging the question.......concerning suppressing desire you said, "It is good in the sense that with suppressed desire you are less likely to act on it and hurt others or oneself." So if it is good to suppress desire for the reason you stated then should all married coupl...

Re: Loss of libibdo

Hello all, It's an interesting point. Where and why does the desire go, and is it a good thing? There is a difference between suppression and eradication. Sex workers may have suppressed the desire (due to oversaturation of it) but they most likely didn't *eradicate* it, and they still have other k...

Re: So really, what's the difference?

On another Buddhist forum there was a discussion of which animals were worse to kill than others from the strict Theravadan perspective....i.e. only Theravadan texts were accepted as being appropriate...and....if my memory is correct the answer was that the bigger the animal the worse the fruits of ...
